This 10-year-old girl is looking for a nice, comfy retirement home. Ellie Mae is a Boxer mix who lived most of her life with her best friend until he could no longer care for himself or her. She is a big girl at 100 pounds and is on a weight loss plan. She loves to go on walks but can't go too far at this point. She is a strong girl so not everyone can walk her. A fully fenced yard would make Ellie Mae very happy. She could get some exercise and then relax in the shade safely. She loves a car ride so she would be happy to run errands with you.
Ellie Mae would be fine in a home with older kids. Her foster family has a high school aged boy and she loves to hang out with him. She needs to be the only pet in the home because she is dog reactive. We don't think she would do well with cats in the home. Ellie Mae has a bark that sounds mean but she warms up quickly, especially with a healthy snack.
If you have it in your heart to give a senior their final forever home, please fill out an application using the link provided below. If we think it seems like the right fit for Ellie Mae, we will contact you to set up a time to meet her.

More about this shelter
Dogs Forever Safe Place is an Adoption Guarantee shelter where volunteers care for homeless dogs who need a second chance for a better life.
Some of our dogs come from kill shelters where they were at risk of being euthanized or from other Iowa counties that have no animal shelter.
Dogs Forever provides a refuge, a sanctuary, until the Adoption Committee finds their forever home.
