My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Iris was brought in by her previous owner on August 3, 2024.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Iris! Iris is a special cat looking for a patient and understanding home. Coming from a home with numerous other cats, Iris lacked proper socialization and takes time to become comfortable with new faces and places, but does best having another feline friend. She does warm up over time and seems to enjoy petting and attention, on her terms! Iris would thrive in a home with another social cat who can help her adjust and teach her that humans aren't so bad! She is not suited for a home with dogs or the hustle and bustle of children. Iris needs a patient home who is willing to give her the time and space she needs to feel safe enough to open up. Don't forget to bring a secure cat carrier for a safe transport home!

Shy/Fearful Cat:  Iris requires a virtual behavior consult, please watch THIS video to learn more about them.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
