Beautiful Fern is the perfect package! She has a sweet and cuddly side, a playful and adventurous side, and a goofy side that loves to romp around! She's been in the care of our shelter and continuously getting overlooked, but we're hoping that her perfect family is coming soon.
Fern is available for adoption and foster at ACCT Philly. You can meet her any day from 10am-6pm. Interested fosters should email foster@acctphilly.org.

Behavior:
Per Volunteer 10/14 what a sweet silly girl! She was definitely someone's pet. Knows sit, down, and paw INSTANTLY! will climb into your lap for cuddles, has a BEAUTIFUL silky coat. She's so silly just watching her she's very animated. Someone will be very lucky to have this girl!
Per Volunteer 10/13/24:
Obsessed with this girl! At first she was very hyper for leashing- she pulled quite a bit to get outside. I thought she was going to be very high energy. Then we got out to the play yard and all she wanted to do was sunbathe and get pets! She's so affectionate! She loves pets and takes them all over. After like one minute of running, she went and laid down on a pillow then jumped on a bench and laid in the sun to get belly rubs. When I was standing petting her she would jump up on me- she just needs a little training for the jumping but it's very easy to manage. Loves pets all over!! Very handler oriented. Didn't want to put her back in her kennel, such a sweet girl
Per Foster 10/6/24:
Fern was so good meeting my cats. She was a little afraid of them, and showed no interest in playing with them or chasing them. She showed no resource guarding with me or them, and they were able to eat next to each other, and sit on my lap at the same time.
Per Staff Foster 9/29/24 (former name was Charese)
Charese was perfect in the car, she made no noise, and spent time looking out the window, or laying down. We went for about a 3 mile hike on the Wissahickon, and she was super interested in the ducks, but disengaged herself. Charese was super easy to walk on the leash, and since the leash I have has shock absorption, she was consistently checking in with me throughout the walk.
She was a little afraid of the bikes, and was very interested in the other, but she could easily walk past them without stopping.
After the hike, we went to the Mt. Airy Arts Festival (in the rain) and she allowed several people to approach her slowly and pet her. She was a little nervous, but was very brave and low-energy. The car ride back, she slept.
Once at my home, she met the cats through the screen door and paid them no mind, even when my cats were hissing at her. After the cats were put away, Charese did some exploring, and eventually settled on a chair, before realizing she could get on my lap. She's not so good at sitting on laps.
Charese would follow me into the bathroom, and into the kitchen, and after the tiredness of the walk wore off, did have some trouble settling in. But once it was bed time, she was really excited. She was zooming across the bed, rolling on her back, and wiggling close to me.
Charese is wildly housetrained--maybe? She did not go to the bathroom at any point during the 24 hours I had her.
Per Staff 9/27/24:
BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:
KNOWN HISTORY:
Stray - abandoned in play yard
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Charese was curled up on her bed by the door when I approached. She looked up with semi soft eyes, and slowly got up to sniff me. Her eyes got softer as she sniffed, and she started to wag her tail while sitting. When I opened the door she backed up nervously, but came forward when I encouraged her with baby talk. She pancaked a bit when I leashed her, but allowed me to leash her easily, and came right out once secured.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls moderately
HANDLING:
When we got to the eval room Charese was a little nervous, so I let her approach me on her own. She approached me with a lowered body, ears back, and eyes wide. She allowed some pets, and then sniffed around the room on her own for a minute. After she had a few minutes to sniff around she approached me again, but was a little more confident this time, staying standing and giving some low wags. She allowed some head and body pets, and began to lean into my legs for more. She put her head in my lap and looked up with soft eyes, soaking up the comfort. Charese allowed all handling with no issues, she just needs you to take things a bit slower. I offered her treats but she wasn't interested. Charese bumped into a cart in the room and when it moved it terrified her. She ran across the room with ears back, tail tucked, and hid under a chair, trembling. When I tried to comfort her she paced around the room anxiously, unable to calm down for another minute. I crouched down and called her to me calmly, and she came right in, leaning into me hard for comfort. Charese is a nervous girl who needs someone to help her gain confidence in herself!
PLAY
Got very bouncy and playful for squeaky toys, but was too stressed to fully engage, and would run to the door repeatedly.
TOYS:
Liked toys and play and bounced around so happily for a squeaky toy, but never took possession of one! She was too nervous and stressed to fully engage at this time, but it seems like play and squeaky toys might be the way to her heart!
