My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

King came to us in early September. He was found roaming with what seems to be an injured leg. He's a sweet boy, who loves giving kisses. Despite the old fracture in his leg, he has a lot of energy and will lope around like a bunny. We're currently trying to convince him he is not the size of a lap dog, because he just wants to get snuggles in someone's lap (though we usually give in an cuddle him anyways because he's so cute).
He is currently taking medication for his old injury and might some day need the leg amputated as the injury is old enough that the vet does not consider it fixable. They have communicated that is might not be a necessary procedure, but something to consider as he does not seem comfortable using it constantly. King also has an immune system disorder that we are currently researching treatment for.

Their adoption process

1.

Submit Application

Application to adopt and instructions to submit found here: https://www.sandovalcountynm.gov/departments/community-services/animal-welfare/

2.

Interview

Brief phone interview to discuss the pet's history and determine if they may be a potential fit for the family interested.

3.

Meet the Pet

Meet and greet at your house or admin kennels in Bernalillo.

4.

Home Check

Home visit to ensure the pet fits in well and check for any potential hazards in the home (holes in the fence, items to chew on, etc).

5.

Sign Adoption Contract

After or within a 30 day trial period, you may finalize your adoption by signing a contract which transfers ownership to the adopter.

6.

Pay Fee

Currently all fees are waived due to overwhelming numbers.

Additional adoption info

After applying for an adoptable animal we screen all adopters via application, phone interview and meet/greet. Once that has gone through we will schedule a home visit to ensure everyone is happy with their decision.
If the home visit goes well and the adopter wants to move forward we will leave the pet in their possession and allow them to "foster" for up to two weeks to make their final decision. If the decision is to adopt, we will finalize paperwork, collect the adoption fee, and transfer all information to the new adopters.

Adoption application
