My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Wiggles! This adorable girl was brought to the shelter as a stray on September 25th. Wiggles's finder described her as a playful, happy girl who enjoys cuddling.

Here at the shelter, Wiggles has a bouncy, joyous energy and loves to run and play! She is an exuberant young lady with lots of spunk, and would thrive in an active household. Wiggles would be an excellent match for a home with grownups or kids 12 and up. Please check out her notes below, and consider meeting this perky puppy at ACCT Philly, open daily from 10am to 6pm!

Behavior notes:
Per Volunteer 10/5/24:
Wiggles was very excited when I went to leash her! She was right at the door and very attentive waiting for me. She allowed me to leash but was gently trying to push out of the kennel as I got her leashed. She pulled quite a bit on leash and tried to run the whole way outside- she was a very hyper girl to start! She's very affectionate! She jumped into my lap and took pets and scratches all over. She really liked butt scratches! She responded to vocal cues and showed me sit. Takes treats super gently!

Per Daytrip 9/28/24:
"Wiggles is very sweet and friendly and a ball of energy. She's definitely aptly named as she loves to move around, explore and squirm on her back/on you. When we met her, she instantly came towards us looking for some attention and scratches. She LOVES toys and loves retrieving them if you thrown them but not as good about dropping the toy when she comes back. She also seemed to take more interest in the person she knew had any toys. She responds to sit but not as much for stop or down.
If she wasn't chewing her toy (loved the squeaker), she'd try and gnaw at her leash. She was very curious and wanting to move around a lot, but also very aware of her "pack" and would briefly stop and check to see if either of us were straggling behind. We didn't have issues walking with her (no growling, barking or extreme pulling of the lead) but we definitely needed to maintain a tight grip on her just as a precaution since we didn't know if she was the type of dog to dart after something (she wasn't).
She seemed very happy to play, take short breaks then start back up again, but it seemed that if she gets too stimulated (maybe 30-40 minutes in), she will start to get more rough, jump a lot and get mouthy/occasionally bite if you're holding something (or thinks you're holding something). (We made the mistake of forgetting to wear pants and long sleeves and you could tell by the end.) We didn't see this as her acting aggressive/threatened, but more so that she wants to play but doesn't know how to in a more gentle manner. I was with my partner and we decided it was best for him to hold her lead the majority of the time because she was too strong for me to adequately control her and keep up with her running. That being said, it's seems like she can be calmed down if you crouch and hold her in between your legs.

Overall, we had a good time with her and felt like we got in a workout as much as she did. We felt like she would match well with someone who's very active, has yard space, maybe has children probably in high school or older, just because of how strong she is."

On 9/26/24: staff noted: Wiggles was sitting on her bed and came to the door [of her kennel] with soft eyes. She was wiggly and was patient for leashing and exited without issue, no issues returning. Pulls moderately on leash. In the [evaluation] room Wiggles was very friendly and energetic! She lacked manners and was very bouncy, jumpy, and wants to be in your face or on your lap at all times. She was very social and sweet, just lacks boundaries at times. She showed knowledge of sit and down and took treats gently when offered. Engaged in play- jumpy and mouthy. Toys - released willingly.
