My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Chappie, a senior 13-year-old terrier who is looking for a loving home to spend his golden years in.  Don't be fooled by his age, Chappie he has a playful spirit and a lot of energy for a new start.  He also loves going on walks and snuggling up with his favorite humans.  Chappie is well-behaved and has had no accidents in his foster home he would love a family who can provide him with a comfortable and safe home where he can feel secure.  He has lived in a foster home with both adult cats and small kittens with no issues.  He has seemed excited when he sees other dogs on walks, so a meet and greet would be recommended if there are other dogs in the home.  If you're looking for a loyal and loving companion who will always be by your side, Chappie is the perfect match. With his affectionate nature and friendly personality, he's sure to steal your heart and become your faithful companion for life. Stop in and meet him!

More about this shelter

The South Suburban Humane Society is a 501(c )(3) organization that was started in 1970, serving the animal welfare needs of the entire south suburbs of Chicago. In the beginning, we handled all rescues, adoptions and provided foster care out of private homes. Since November 1973, our organization has been operating a 10,000 square foot open-door animal shelter in Chicago Heights, Illinois.

For over fifty years, our organization has helped tens of thousands of animals. We offer extensive outreach programs including humane education, and community outreach events. We also operate a resale shop located in Steger, Illinois that promotes our organization, our animals and provide much needed income to support our humane work.

The Mission of the South Suburban Humane Society is to protect and promote the well being of pets and their people in our community and beyond.
