Rufus joined rescue on 9/21/24. Rufus is a sweet boy hiding behind a very scared demeanor. We believe he was dumped by an out of state breeder. Rufus loves other dogs and gets excited when he sees them. He is a little timid around big dogs but is learning that they are ok and won't hurt him. Rufus is VERY timid around people. He will run away when being approached, and cower if he is cornered. I am able to pick him up without issue, but he will hold a stiff, scared posture. He has not attempted to bite anyone which is excellent given how scared he is. Rufus will bark sometimes when he is in his x-pen and doesn't want to be. He is learning the concept of stairs and leashes. He can get up the stairs, but going down is a little bumpy. He will wear a harness and drag a leash but if there is tension on the leash he will begin to thrash, so we are taking that slow. He seems to be potty trained as he hasn't had any accidents in the house yet. He will need to be neutered prior to adoption and that has not been scheduled yet. He is very sweet and wants so badly to love but has a significant lack of trust. Rufus is still young and once he learns to trust people, he will make the best fur baby!
Rufus is from an owner surrender. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract.
To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page.
If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.
