My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Chevy! He is a 5 year old male rough collie who is super sweet and loves life. Chevy is outgoing, confident, very playful, and has a stable, easygoing temperament. Chevy gets along with his foster siblings and does great with cats, chickens, and sheep. He knows basic commands and walks nicely on a leash.

Chevy was raised in a family with children and has been a gentlemen with the neighborhood kids that he has met while at his foster home. We think he would thrive in an active household with kids who will play with him and keep him on his toes. He seems to have the classic Lassie personality of gentle attentiveness that would mesh perfectly with a younger family.

He does have a couple bad habits of counter surfing and rough housing on the furniture when he gets excited. However, we have been working on training out these behaviors and he has already shown much improvement after just a couple weeks in his foster home! He will require consistency in his new home to continue improving these behaviors. He rides well in the car, is quiet and respectful in his kennel, and trains eagerly and easily.

Chevy is neutered, microchipped, and is up to date on vaccines and all parasite prevention. He also recently had a dental cleaning. We have been treating him for a skin infection and his coat is currently very thinned out as a result. We do expect that his coat will be long and dense when it comes back in, so routine grooming will be important.

He will be difficult for his foster family to part with, but they are excited for him to find his perfect forever home! A fencedf yard is required.  Apply at freedomcollierescue.or

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All adopters must fill out an adoption application. We do vet checks and a home visit. We adopt to indoor only homes. All of our collies are spayed/neutered prior to adoption. All collies are completed vetted, all vaccinations are up-to-date, they are micro-chipped and if needed, they are treated for heart worm disease and are given a dental. Our donation fees are:

$325.00 donation for a puppy under 12 months ***
$275.00 donation for an adult age 1-9
$150.00 donation for an adult age 10+

*** FCR will require spay/neuter surgery to be performed when puppy reaches 6 months of age. You may choose to take the Collie to an FCR approved veterinarian, where fees will be paid by FCR. If you would prefer to take the Collie to your own veterinarian, FCR will reimburse you, upon proof of payment made to your own vet, for an amount equal to rescue rate at FCR vet. Adoption will not be finalized until the puppy is spayed.

More about this rescue

Freedom Collie Rescue is based on these three qualities - compassion, honesty and dedication. We are a newly formed Collie Rescue organization, with over 8 years experience as board members and volunteers with Collie rescue in the greater Houston area. In addition, our Adviser has over 10 years of experience in showing the Collie breed, and many years in rescue. We are incorporated in the state of Texas, and are recognized as a non-profit organization.

Freedom Collie Rescue will rescue Collies in danger of being euthanized at area shelters/pounds, find new homes for Collies that have been abandoned or relinquished by their owners, provide necessary veterinary care for rescued Collies, and place rescued Collies into permanent adoptive homes. Your adopted collie will be spayed or neutered, be up-to-date on all required vaccinations, be on preventative heart worm medication, and will be micro-chipped.
