MAYA NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!
Name: Maya Best Guess for Breed: Lab/Retriever Mix
Best Guess for Age: 3 years as of 9/20/24 Gender: Female
Approximate Weight: 62lbs
Gets Along With: Other dogs. We haven't seen her with kids or cats but she can be tested!
Currently Living At: Shelter. Maya needs a foster or forever home!
Special Adoption Considerations: Maya is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.
We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!

Adopt Maya today, and you’ll never have a ruff day again!'
