My name is Checkers!

Meet Checkers, a gentle soul who arrived at Proverbs with his two brothers from an unfortunate situation. At just 14 lbs, this sweet little guy has short legs, a wiry coat that doesn’t seem to shed, and is mostly black with a splash of white on his chest, a charming goatee, and a tiny stripe down his forehead and nose. Though timid and humble, Checkers craves human interaction and is slowly gaining confidence with each passing day, thanks to the loving care of his foster family.

Checkers loves other dogs and learns quickly by following their lead. He’s making great progress with house training, already knowing to go outside, and currently wears belly bands indoors. He was recently neutered, which should help with his training as well. At night, Checkers sleeps quietly and stays dry in his kennel.

This little guy isn’t picky about food, eats dry kibble without overeating, and doesn’t bark—even when the other dogs get rowdy! He is looking for a forever home where he can continue to grow in confidence with consistent reassurance and affection. A fully fenced yard is a must for Checkers, giving him the space he needs to explore and feel secure. With time and love, Checkers is sure to become the sweetest and most loyal companion.
