My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi hi Hi how ya doin'? Bounce bounce zoom spin!
Leif the explorer has arrived and get ready for adventures! This bright, bouncy fella will charm your socks off and you will set sail for fun.
You can see the larger dogs sit down as he passes by. Leif has no time for them - he needs to get down to business. What business? Well, he has a pretty tight workout program.
🥣Healthy diet
🐾Exercise
🏋️‍♂️Working out!! Run jump skip hop! This guy is all about fun and happiness!
This kid rules the roost. (Well, except for cats) he will commandeer their food, then resume bounce mode.
Staff and volunteers seek out Leif to ask how he stays in such great shape. His impressive physique is a work of art. Leif is happy to share his secrets but he requires commitment if he's going to train you.
No loafing on the sofa- We have calories to burn!
(Unless of course, he's finished with his workout, then get your lap ready for him.)
"You are not seriously going to eat that pizza when there is a perfectly good celery stick in the fridge, are you??!!"
Leif is humble yet proud of his self. 17 pounds of Friendly, lean. Bouncin' machine.
Leif quotable expression:
"Happy Happy JoyJoy- Let's Bounce! "
Occasionally guests will be overheard to say "look at the cute little fella".
The room gasps 😱 and silence falls upon the staff. Leif never hesitates his zoom motion right toward their lap, he casts a commanding look over his shoulder and says "Bounce Baby!
🐶☑️He is not showing reactivity to dogs but he will be the boss. Potential siblings need apply with humble requests to live in his presence and choose a healthy lifestyle be left in the sidelines.
😻☑️Cats he will tolerate providing he can select snacks from their bowl at will. He is very interested in all moving objects cats could be a fun toy for him. Training will help him learn boundaries and self control. Families with children need to understand the breed. Tenacious, and tough. He is not a low energy dog. If he is treated as such you will need to hide the pillows.
They are known for their energy, courage, and strong hunting instinct. Please research the breed before meeting Leif to see if he will be a good fit.
Jack Russell Terriers are friendly, inquisitive, and lively. They are also known for being fearless and tenacious. They are intelligent, outgoing, and active, and thrive on having a job to do. They are best suited for homes with fenced yards and older children.
Enrichment puzzles to solve while you are at work are a great option with low fat treats.
If you are interested in a perky companion to adventure with come and check out this guy!
Be prepared for fun love and laughter! You can't be sad around this sweet boy!

More about this shelter

The Humane Society of Wicomico County was started in 1968 by a group of people who wanted to help improve the lives of animals. We have come a long way in our 40+ years! We have a staff dedicated to making sure the animals that come to our doors are loved and protected as they wait for their forever home. Not only are our animals vaccinated, wormed and given flea preventative, we can treat animals that come to us with mange, ringworm, heartworm and pay for animals to be seen by an outside vet should there be a need. We have an on-site spay/neuter clinic that not only is used for our animals but we also offer low cost spay/neuter for animals of the public. We provide emergency boarding for victims of domestic abuse, fire, and medical emergencies. We also have the capability to set up an off-site emergency shelter for people evacuated from their homes. In addition, we have an education program to help teach kids about being a responsible pet guardian. We work with a wide range of rescue groups and our animals have been transported from our mid-Atlantic area throughout the North Eastern United States. Our shelter is an open admission shelter and we will take in approximately 3500 animals this year. We do what we do because of our love for animals and our desire to make a difference in their lives every single day.
