My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

JELLY IS A SUPER SWEET AND LOVING MIXED BREED PUP READY TO FIND HER FOREVER FAMILY. WE BELIEVE JELLY IS A BORDER COLLIE/RETRIEVER X BUT THAT IS JUST A GUESS. JELLY WAS ABANDONED WITH HER 3 LITTER MATES SO WE DO NOT KNOW MUCH ABOUT THEM. LUCKILY JELLY FOUND HER WAY TO US SO WE COULD GIVE HER A NEW LIFE.
WE ESTIMATE HER AGE TO BE 7-9 MONTHS.
JELLY IS SPAYED AND CURRENTLY VACCINATED. SHE IS GREAT WITH OTHER DOGS AND WE BELIEVE SHE WOULD BE FINE WITH OTHER ANIMALS TOO. SHE LOVES ATTENTION AND PLAYING WITH TOYS.
PLEASE CALL 218-434-1444 FOR MORE INFORMATION OR TO MEET HER TODAY.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We have an extensive 3 page application form which can be found on our web site. We interview new applicants to ensure they are matched with the right pet for their family. We do NOT allow our animals to become "outside" pets. We spay/neuter EVERY cat, kitten, puppy. dog prior to adoption. We have approx $300 in every animal we adopt out. Adoption fees on dogs is $70 , cats $30, kittens $50. We believe in early spay, neuter.
Every animal has to be met and interacted with prospective new owners. In many cases, we let the pet decide.

Go meet their pets

Any of our pets may be seen by appointment only. Please call and schedule. We try to work around the potential adoptees schedule. We have wonderful volunteers 3 shifts a day who care for our animals, but we discourage "drop ins" as it upsets the flow and the animals. When we have a run of kittens or dogs, we drive 250 miles to Grand Forks ND where we hold adoption events at a Pet store. We also drive 300 miles to Duluth , MN to hold adoption events. We have wonderful success with social media. See us on FB at low humanesociety and lake of the woods humane society

More about this rescue

We are the Lake of the Woods Humane Society. We are located on the Minnesota Canadian border on Lake of the Woods. Our mission is to rehab, make healthy adoptable animals and find them new loving homes. We are 100% volunteer operated. We have 3 shifts of volunteers a day that come in, walk and socialize the dogs and cats, and do clean up. We have 4 volunteer managers, each having ownership of a different segment of the operation. We have an endowment that provides us with $10,000 a year towards Vet bills. Last year our vet bills were $17K. We hold fund raisers to keep our doors open. We do this because we care about animals, and if we don't do it, they will be destroyed. Our community has 1100 population and is in the lower end of the income range. We go outside the county and in many cases the state to hold adoption events. We NEVER euthanize to make room for new animals. Our Walker was our longest residence. He was with us for 8 years.
