My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello, my name is Truffles, a young male Red Eared Slider turtle who is looking for a forever home that can give me the care that I need. I was surrendered when my previous home was unable to give me the proper care, and now I am waiting for the right person for me. Unlike many turtles, that tend to be fearful of people, especially when I am basking, I am a very chill guy who doesn't mind other seeing me when I am not in the water. I might seem like an easy animal to care for but I want to tell you some of the things that I will be in need of in my new home. I will get bigger, and I should have a big tank enough room for me to be swimming around, someone who can give me all kinds of veggies, someone who will help me with some stuck shed I may have on my shell. I will also need a basking platform, water heater, UVB, UVA, and a heat lamp to not only make sure that I can warm up, but also to make sure I am getting all the vitamins I need. I will also have to go to exotic vets, as I am not a pet that is seen as ‘normal' and they are expensive so my new owner has to know that I require more care than most animals. I also need to be the only turtle in my tank, I like my space and don;'t want to share my space with another turtle! But if you take my home I promise you will fall in love with me quickly. I am a sassy guy who is looking for someone to give me all the love and care that I will need. If you have any questions please give the staff a call at 817-249-3647.

More about this shelter

Our History
The Humane Society of North Texas (HSNT) was founded in 1905 and is the oldest animal welfare organization in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. While the organization’s name has evolved from the Fort Worth Humane Society in 1905, to the Tarrant County Humane Society in 1910, to the Humane Society of North Texas in 1982, its focus has always been on caring for animals in need. HSNT provides services such as pet adoptions, low-cost spay/neuter surgeries and vaccinations, returning lost pets to their owners, cruelty investigations and humane euthanasia. HSNT operates four pet adoption centers and a quarantine facility in Tarrant County, as well as an equine and livestock ranch located in Johnson County.
