My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Spot, a heartwarming success story of transformation and trust. When Spot first arrived at the shelter, he was a fragile soul-skinny, infested with fleas, and understandably terrified of the world around him. But with a lot of patience, kindness, and, of course, plenty of treats, Spot began to blossom into the sweet, loving dog he is today. Spot's journey from fearful to fabulous has been a testament to his resilience and the dedicated care he's received. Now, Spot is a bundle of joy who thrives on spending time with his favorite people, indulging in snuggles, and playing fetch. Treats and tennis balls are among his top three favorite things, and he will eagerly show his appreciation with affectionate tail wags and joyful play.

While Spot is still building his confidence and can be a bit shy with strangers, he continues to grow braver each day. His ideal home would be with older kids who understand the importance of recognizing when he's uncomfortable and can offer him the patience and respect he needs as he adjusts. Despite his rough start, Spot has shown a friendly side in his playgroups with other dogs, proving he's ready for new friendships. If you're looking for a loving companion who will reward your kindness with endless loyalty and cuddles, Spot might just be the perfect addition to your family.

More about this shelter

The Maryland SPCA connects wonderful pets to loving owners. We are not affiliated with any national animal organization, and we do not receive any government or United Way funding. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals through fostering the humane relationship between animals and people. We operate primarily in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.

To make sure that our dogs and cats do not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem, every one is spayed or neutered before going into a new home. The cost is included in the adoption fee, as are the costs of shots and other necessary care. In addition, a free Positive Pooch class is available to our dog adopters.

There is no set time limit for how long an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as an animal maintains general good health and a sound temperament, we keep him or her until adopted. We pride ourselves on providing premium care to the animals in a clean, pleasant environment. Our adoption staff works diligently to pair up adopters with the best animal match for their homes and lifestyles.

We transport animals from other shelters to our adoption center to help more animals get adopted. We also help pet owners find new homes for their pets so their animals don’t need to enter shelter care.
