My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Phoenix was brought in by his previous owner.

Why Phoenis might be the one for you:
Phoenix is rising in his foster home. His foster family says that Phoenix is coming out of his shell and is becoming a big goofball and cuddle bug. He now asks to go outside to potty and is learning to walk nicely on a leash. He plays hard but then comes inside and sleeps like a log right next to his person. He wakes up and is ready to do it all over again. On his first day at the beach, he loved running in and out of the water. He wants more beach adventures. His foster mom says that Phoenix is a rambunctious guy who is seeing the world in a new light and loving it. It will be helpful if his new family is dog savvy with positive reinforcement training experience. A calm and quiet house with a securely enclosed yard will be great for Phoenix as people who have lots of patience and understanding. Phoenix will thrive in an environment where he can settle in at his own pace and his boundaries are respected. Small children might not be the best for Phoenix. He needs people who can read and appropriately respond to his body language. Phoenix has lived with doggie friends before and might love to go to a home with another dog. Are you ready to be the family where Phoenix rises to greatness? If so, contact us a and we will arrange for a meet and greet between you and Phoenix. Bring a leash because your meet and greet might end up with goofy Phoenix going home with you.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
