My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Phoenix was brought in by his previous owner.

Why this pet is the one for you:
This handsome pup is Phoenix! Phoenix is a bashful boy who will need to find a home that is committed to helping him build his confidence. Phoenix's next human should have experience with positive reinforcement training, a calm and quiet house with a securely enclosed yard, and unlimited amounts of patience and understanding. This might sound like a tall order but Phoenix will thrive in an environment where he can adjust at his own pace and his boundaries are respected. Phoenix's new human(s) should be prepared to give him the time he truly needs to come out of his shell and show his personality. Any children in Phoenix's next home should be at least 10 years old, and should be able to read and appropriately respond to his body language. Phoenix has lived with doggie friends before and would love to go to a home with another dog. Are you ready to give Phoenix all the tasty treats and love he deserves?

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
