This helps Above & Beyond English Setter Rescue with pet care costs.
Socialization/training: He is socialized with people, both men and women, but he is still fearful of kids. He loves his people and loves to be affectionate. He gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home and loves to play chase with them or snuggle when it's time to relax. Yarro knows the commands sit and crate. He can't be trusted to free roam in the home yet, as he still has puppy habits and if left unsupervised, he will chews on things he's not supposed to. He prefers to eat alone in my bathroom as he would be submissive to another dog eating his food.
Crate trained: He goes into the crate, but will bark once left alone and cannot see his humans.
Leash trained: He walks on a lead well.
Activity Level: His energy levels are typical for young, adolescent setter. Yarro loves to play with toys, loves to chase my dogs in the yard.
Fence: Yarro requires a fence but he will try and dig if left alone to entertain himself. We have not witnessed any climbing on the fence, so a standard height would be enough for him. If the gate is left open, he does try to get free and go on an adventure.
Behavior: Yarro is shy but is eager to want attention & love from adults. He prefers that he is getting attention when people are on his level instead of standing over him. Right now, younger kids make him nervous. He loves to seek attention when he sees other dogs getting attention and he really thinks he is a lap dog. He loves to give hugs when you get home. He loves his dog toys and his foster sister Cali, especially when she chases him through the yard.
Medical History: Yarro is neutered, microchipped, current on all vaccines and is on monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His next leismaniasis test is due before 2/28/25. He is a healthy boy with no medical issues.
This dog originates from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic. They tested negative before coming to the USA, but the parasite can remain dormant in the system for many years, so potential adopters must be willing to commit to annual testing for the next 7 years. Typically, the test needs to be sent to a special lab, but any regular vet can draw the blood and send it to the lab. The cost of the test seems to vary widely by area, but is approximately $150-$250. or if your vet is willing to send the test to a veterinary college lab, cost can be as low as $80.
Foster Comments: Yarro would do best in a home with adults and teenagers, as he LOVES my oldest (18 y/o) who takes him on walks around the neighborhood. He would also do well to have a doggy sibling to learn how to "dog" with, he gravitates more towards adults and other dogs. He absolutely loves to snuggle and spoon in bed. If you're looking for a dog who knows how to give you affection back but still has some energy to run and play, Yarro is your boy!!
Foster Location: Schaumburg, IL
Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000-mile distance between adopters & foster home. If interstate transport is provided for your adopted dog, there will be an additional charge of $50.00 for the required Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (“Health Certificate”). Typically, we are able to transport your adopted dog to within 2 hours of your home. *Dogs can be adopted outside the 1000-mile transport distance; however, adopters must be willing to either fly their adopted dog, drive to a location within the 1000-mile transport range, or make independent transport arrangements for their adopted dog. Transports to far Western states, from Eastern states, may have additional restrictions.
