My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

*** In order to alleviate the need to bring an animal into the shelter environment, The Anti-Cruelty Society has the Home-to-Home Shelter Bypass service to help people find new accommodations for their pets privately. These animals are not located in any of the Society's physical locations. If you are interested in adopting this animal, please do NOT click the Adopt Me button and instead reach out to the current owner directly via the email provided in the profile. As this is a Home-to-Home animal you are not required to fill out an Anti-Cruelty Society adoption application form. ***

Gypsy didn't know he was homeless and living on borrowed time under the 47th street bridge with winter fast approaching. He is just a baby and had a tough start in life that in no way dampened his infectious grin, his calm demeanor, or enthusiastic pursuit of snuggles. He was a joy to have around and full of personality. Although initially resistant to being bathed, the moment the warm water and suds touched his skin, he melted into a massage. He was at my side throughout his stay and delighted in playing tug, eating out of puzzle bowls, and snuggling up to me in bed. He was quick to pick up the basics of house training, although he should be crated and not allowed free roam until he masters the art. Although he is easily mistaken for a Pitbull, Gypsy is clearly part Dog de Bordeaux (French Mastiff) with the iconic cheek furls and the steady presence of a loyal guardian breed. The massive head is a crucial breed characteristic and the Dogue de Bordeaux is claimed to have the largest head in the canine world, in proportion to the rest of the body. And Gypsy's big head is full of smarts. He is eager to learn and please and would be an ideal candidate for advanced obedience training and is well socialized to other dogs and people. He is currently almost 60 lbs and may grow a bit more, has just lost his puppy teeth a short while ago, and is jolly and good natured around other dogs and people. He walks calmly on a leash--a rare treat for such a young dog--and I was able to walk him easily alongside my German Shepherd, Isobel. This is a beautiful, sweet, incredible dog that has all the potential in the world if given a chance. I will also help with training as needed. He comes vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. He does prefer to be with his humans and would do best in a crate if left alone as he is still young and big enough to get himself into mischief. I can also help get him an appropriate crate if needed. I am requesting a rehoming fee of $200, the typical price for puppies at Anti-Cruelty, that will be donated to Anti Cruelty once he is adopted.
