My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a
question that is not covered in the bio, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If
interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/.

Please note that because all our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance from Newark, DE for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit.

Meet Maia! Maia is a 10-year-old, 7.5lb, Chihuahua/Dachshund mix who was found as a stray. Small and alone, this little pup needed a new beginning and was lovingly brought into our rescue.

Maia was spayed and treated for severe dental disease. She has some hearing and vision loss and requires eyedrops that cost $11 a month. Maia gets anxiety when confined in a crate but happily sleeps in a dog bed. She is not a fan of being carried around but loves to follow her people and lay close to them. Maia is fully potty trained and can handle a few stairs. She loves to be outside but doesn’t require a fenced-in yard. She also walks well on a leash. Maia gets along with dogs, cats and children.

Maia is a couch potato who would thrive in a quiet home with other low energy pets. She would be happy just being part of a family. Maia enjoys walks and loves her food. This low-maintenance pup simply needs a soft place to lay her head. Can it please be with you? Apply today!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The goal of Senior Dog Haven & Hospice is to find the best home possible for our senior dogs.  To assist us in this endeavor, SDH&H requires a fully completed application, references, and a visit to your home by one of our trained volunteers.  For this reason we only process applications within a reasonable commute from the dog's foster home.

Our adoption fee is $200, however we offer a discounted rate of $150 for senior adopters over the age of 65.

More about this rescue

We are a small, dedicated group of fosters and volunteers. We strive to improve the lives of senior dogs who find themselves without a family to care for them anymore. We do not have a facility. Our dogs live in our homes as members of our families. We provide care, comfort, companionship and, most of all, unconditional love. We have worked in senior rescue for years, and see the continuing and growing need to get them out of shelters where they are often euthanized because of their age and/or medical reasons, or from owners that find themselves in crisis and no longer able to care for their companions (nursing home, illness, abusive situations, etc).

Senior Dog Haven and Hospice is a registered 501(c)3. All donations to our rescue are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
