Riley is a true survivor. She was a victim of abuse, a guy through her over a stair railing and caused a major break in her hip. Luckily it was caught on security camera and the guy was arrested and the animals from the apartment were all taken out of there. Total of 2 dogs and 1 cat. Riley and the cat were the “property” of the girlfriend and she ended up signing them over to the shelter. Once their evidence hold was over, the shelter reached out to us to get them out of there. The other dog was on a longer hold because he was the abuser’s dog and he had the nerve to try to get him back. He ended up being pulled by another rescue.
Riley was an emotional wreck when she first came to us. But part of it was her confusion and pain from the broken hip. She’s all fixed up now and she’s feeling better everyday! She has many dog friends at her foster home, she is crate trained and seems house trained but she does do an occasional tinkle out of fear or nerves. It’s hard to know how much trauma and abuse she endured so she needs a patient human.
**We also have the cat that was seized from the apartment. She had some injuries as well but no broken bones…thankfully! We are calling her Elizabeth.
She’s a petite shepherd. Full grown at 40lbs but might build a bit more muscle.
Thank you to our rescue partner Hope For Paws for sponsoring Riley’s surgery. Their orthopedic surgeon did an amazing job! So grateful!
