My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Say hello to sweet boy Roscoe! This 2.5 year old, 45 lb Pit Bull Mix is ready to meet his forever family and share all the love he’s got to give. Roscoe is a very energetic pup who’s eager to learn how to be the best dog possible. His ideal forever family will be one that can accommodate his energy needs and continue working on his training.

Roscoe has been making significant progress since coming into rescue and will be sure to flourish into the best dog! He loves to play with other dogs and will jump at them when on leash. This is a work in progress and he’s been doing better settling down in public. He even tags along on brewery dates with his foster family and loves to lay down and take in the action!

In his foster home, he’s slowly been getting used to coexisting with cats. He’s very curious about them and will occasionally bark. He’d likely do well in a home with confident cats but a meet and greet may be necessary prior to adoption. As far as kids go, he does best with confident kids with adults around to supervise. He can be a bit mouthy when playing and for this reason we’d recommend he go to a home with children 10 years and older.

Roscoe has been doing great with crate training and will willingly spend time crated when home alone and at nighttime. He’s not been known to bark or howl when home alone and may be a good candidate for shared walls given the right fit. He does, however, require a moderate to high level of activity. For this reason, it is ideal for Roscoe to have access to a fenced yard, but this is not a requirement. It is most important for Roscoe to go to a home that can accommodate his energy needs with consistent daily activity.

Roscoe’s ready to meet his forever family! With patience and consistent training, he will be sure to develop into the perfect dog anyone could ask for. If you’re interested in learning more about Roscoe and think he might be a good fit, fill out an application using the link below to learn more! Whoever becomes his family will be lucky they did.

The adoption fee is $450. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%.
Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown.
Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

Additional adoption info

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

More about this rescue

Our Mission
Pet Haven improves the lives of pets and the people who love them by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats; reducing pet overpopulation by supporting spay and neuter efforts, and providing resources to people that help strengthen the human-animal bond.

Our Vision
A Minnesota where all pets live in safe, loving homes.

Our Values
Excellence in service and care; community; integrity; innovation; perseverance; compassion; a rewarding place to volunteer

How We Help
Spay/Neuter Initiative Program: Providing support to end pet overpopulation in Minnesota
Owner Surrender: Providing a safe haven for pet owners
Foster: Committed to finding forever homes for cats and dogs
Phoenix Fund for Special Needs: Providing veterinary care for animals in need of healing
What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.

Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.

Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.

We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.

We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
