My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Poepoe! A playful pup who knows exactly what he wants-your attention!
In his kennel, Poepoe is all wags and soft eyes, showing off his relaxed, easy-going side. He's patient with leashing and super easy to handle.

Once he's out and about, Poepoe's social side shines! He loves meeting new people and isn't shy about ansking for your attention with a few barks. He's loves pets and kisses, leaning in for snuggles and taking treats gently. Though he's still got some puppy energy, he's a friendly boy who just needs some help with his manners.

Poepoe loves to play! Whether it's a game of keep-away with his toys or some fun in the yard, this guy knows how to have a good time and he's looking for a pal who can give him just that . Could that be you?

Eligible for rescue, foster, and adoption. Meet Poepoe at ACCT Philly any day of the week from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., or email foster@acctphilly.org to express interest in fostering him.

Behavior notes:
9/28/24 volunteer Day Trip notes: We took Poepoe for a day trip to give him a break from kennel life. He's immediately super friendly, confident and happy. He has puppy curiosity, enthusiasm and energy! We first went for a stroll around ACCT for a pre-trip bathroom break and he peed and pooped right away! Then off to Forbidden Drive in Wissahickon Park. Overall, he walks very nicely on leash for a young pup. He checks in and easily follows your change of direction.

He did great passing by other dogs, hiking the trails and meeting new people. He's up for any adventure with an enthusiastic attitude. Poepoe does love to chase the small critters!

We then took him home for a rest break. First he explored the house including running up and down the steps. We wiped him down, and he's super compliant with whatever handling you do. Poepoe settled into a bed with a bully stick and entertained himself (and us) by tossing the bully stick into the air a few times before gnawing it. He snuggles and leans in for pets and gives big smooches. He does have some jumpy behavior and will sometimes bark for attention.

We went to our local dog park and stayed on the outside. Poepoe wagged his tail excitedly and happily greeted the dogs nose-to-nose through the fence. No reactivity at all while passing by other dogs. He also did some play bows with dogs on the way home. He seems to really want to interact and play with other dogs!

He's very treat motivated and quickly learned "sit". Combined with his personality to please, Poepoe should be easily trainable. This pup is handsome! A great puppy just looking for a family to give him his forever home with structure and guidelines to follow! A big brother or sister to show him the ropes would be a bonus.

Per volunteer on 9/27: Poepoe was so wiggly in his kennel, I just had to take him out! He is pretty good on a leash and peed immediately outside. He doesn't appear to have any prior training but he was interested in treats and tried to stay "down . He appears good motivated and with some training, I think he'd do great. He appears to be young and excitable and in the dog run he did get a bit jumpy and exhibited some light mouthing play. Since he was getting very playful, I switched to a walk, which he does really well on. He appears to try House trained. I think he could be foster eligible and might do best with no young kids at the moment.

BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:
KNOWN HISTORY:
Stray
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
In the kennel Poepoe was wagging with soft eyes and a relaxed body. He was relaxed for leashing and very patient. Exited without any issues and returned easily as well.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulled moderately
HANDLING:
Poepoe was friendly in the office and easy to handle. He was social and did well meeting multiple people, but can be quite demanding for attention! He will demand bark at you when he wants attention. He was loose with all handling and would lean in while petting him and try to give kisses. He took treats gently when offered as well. He has some puppy mannerisms and can get mouthy when excited, could use some help with training!
PLAY:
Engaged in play- can become jumpy and vocal
TOYS:
Played keep away with toys, but never tensed or seemed uncomfortable. He allowed me to pet him while he had the toy and easily did trades
