My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! I’m Miss Scarlett! I was rescued from the Hesperia shelter in Southern California. I have a big personality and I love being with my person. Whether I’m hanging out on the couch with them or sleeping next to them, I’m always happy to spend time with them. I’m super confident and friendly. If you have friends over, I’ll be out and about to greet them. I love to play and can self entertain with a tunnel, mouse toy or a spring toy, but I really enjoy it when my person grabs a feather or wand toy and plays with me.

What I’m not a fan of is other cats. I’m currently in a foster home with other cats but I would be happiest if I got to be on my own and be the queen bee of my castle.

I arrived at the shelter with really bad skin issues as a “stray” kitty. Unfortunately, since I really can’t tell you my story, we don’t know the history of how my skin got to be that way. You’ll see that I have some missing hair and the vet thinks that it probably won’t grow back. There are three theories why the vet thinks I had the skin issue: 1) I had a severe allergic reaction to a flea collar, 2) I have a severe food allergy reaction to chicken or beef which caused me to scratch a ton, or 3) somebody did something bad to me and it caused the damage to my skin, but we don’t like to think about that one too much. You’ll also see that my right eye is a little squinty. The vet thinks that is due to the damage to my skin but there’s not actually anything wrong with my eye so nothing to worry about there.

After treating me with both holistic and conventional medical care and a food change to remove chicken and beef, my skin has healed dramatically and I’m feeling so much better. I’m currently eating this yummy food: Instinct Minced Real Rabbit Recipe. I’m a huge fan of food and can become chunky if my human doesn’t manage my food intake so it’s best if I’m fed twice a day, which is just two servings of my favorite food. The rescue thinks with this change to my diet, my skin will continue to be happy and healthy.

I know I can look a little quirky with my winky eye and my missing fur but I hope you can look past these quirks and see how adorable I really am. I really do have a winning purrsonality so any investment you make in me is 100% worth it. I absolutely love my humans, receiving attention, and playing. I do want to let you know that I also love to give love bites but I’m never aggressive. I’m a real sweetheart and I would love to finally find my forever home! Could it be with you?

You can see more of me in my foster home here @purrfect_purrminators.

Please note:

  • Miss Scarlett would do best as an only child
  • Indoor only

More about this rescue

Every day adult and senior cats with treatable medical and behavioral conditions are euthanized. GIVE ME SHELTER's goal is to rescue these cats from certain death and place them into loving permanent homes.
GMS is a registered 501(c)3 organization and is dedicated to helping stop the overpopulation of unwanted and abandoned cats. We are a small group of dedicated volunteers who are committed to bettering the life of adult cats who no longer have a home to call their own. Every time you adopt from us, you allow us to save another cat that would have otherwise died. We receive new cats into our system almost every week. Our website is constantly being updated, so please check back often!
