My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Age: 4 months

Sparrow is a little guy who had a rough start in life. Found with his Mama and siblings, everyone was a bit nervous when they came to CHS. Mama warmed up quickly, but Sparrow had never seen a person in his life, and was still scared and panicky. Our cat loving shelter staff have been spending time with Sparrow, and he is slowly starting to come around. While he's not quite ready to declare any humans his best buddies yet, he is learning that humans can be gentle and patient, bring tasty treats and not be *too* scary. Because Sparrow is so young, it's likely that he'll warm up quickly to his new family, provided they are gentle and respectful and offer hiding spaces. With a little patience, Sparrow will soon be stalking sunbeams and chasing down shoelaces. Give this baby a chance and see how amazing he can be!

More about this shelter

CONNECTING LIVES SINCE 1922

From our earliest beginning, Calgary Humane Society was more than a shelter. As Calgary’s first-established animal welfare organization, connecting the lives of animals and people while providing essential animal services to the community remains our central priority.

Today, Calgary Humane Society (CHS) shelters almost 5,000 homeless animals each year. In 1922 we set out to help as many animals as we can and we will continue to do so by fostering the values of respect, compassion, commitment, teamwork, integrity and innovation.

Our mission is to help as many animals as we can.

Our vision is using innovative strategies to lead, inspire, and educate in the humane treatment of companion animals, fostering an enlightened community that consistently demonstrates respect and compassion for all animals.

Our dream is a community where animals are valued, humanely treated, and live enriched lives.

Calgary Humane Society is committed to creating a better tomorrow through education and collaboration.
