My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chester von Coswig is a stunning, 18-month-old black-and-red German Shepherd. This handsome, sturdy-built boy is not just another pretty face; he's eager to learn and show off his smarts! Chester is the perfect companion for an active individual or a family that loves outdoor adventures. He's housebroken and already mastering basic commands such as "sit" and "down," and will even offer a paw to make sure you're impressed. He's very treat-motivated but makes sure to take treats gently, showcasing his eagerness to please. With an experienced handler, he will walk nicely on a leash, and then can walk politely with other dogs. In off-leash playgroups, Chester meets other bigger dogs well (he's a no for small dogs). He can at times be a delightful goofball, even inviting dogs to play, but he won't fail to take breaks to ask for love and attention from his human friends. If you're looking for a loyal companion who would love to learn and grow with you, Chester is your boy! Come meet this incredible pup!

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

In order to adopt any dog from Westside German Shepherd Rescue, one must fill out an adoption application first. Upon receipt of your application, a Westside adoption counselor will contact you.We do aerial home checks and you may be asked to supply pictures as well as arranging for a home visit prior to adoption.

Adoption fees vary with each dog and typically range from $150 to $500. They are set, taking into account the dog's age, training level, temperament, if they’re newly arrived, medical condition(s) (if any) and other factors. Adoption fees are used not only to rescue and place the dog you are personally adopting, but to aid in the future rescue and rehabilitation of other deserving dogs. Adoption fees are necessary; without fees, our rescue efforts would quickly come to an end. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter, microchip, and up-to-date vaccinations.
