Maya von Salazar is a stunning 2 year old long haired, black and red German Shepherd from a breeder. She comes with her AKC papers with her genealogy. We could definitely imagine her in the show ring. She was born on 11/13/21. Maya has a spectacular gait, she is fast and light on her feet. She needs an active home with space as she loves to run and go for long walks. Her former family would take her to the dog park to run as well. She is very alert and listens for any sounds. She is housebroken, knows some commands and is wonderful with children. Maya loves to play in her rowdy play style with the younger dog in her foster home, but is very respectful of the older shepherd who is not interested in playing with the youngsters anymore. If you say something sweet to Maya in passing, she extends her paw, as if to say "Thank you”. She is an excellent passenger in the car and also lovers water. She is so perfect for the fun loving adopter.

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.

Adoption fees vary with each dog and typically range from $150 to $500. They are set, taking into account the dog's age, training level, temperament, if they’re newly arrived, medical condition(s) (if any) and other factors. Adoption fees are used not only to rescue and place the dog you are personally adopting, but to aid in the future rescue and rehabilitation of other deserving dogs. Adoption fees are necessary; without fees, our rescue efforts would quickly come to an end. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter, microchip, and up-to-date vaccinations.
