My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This is Dominic, tall, dark, and handsome, plus he is smart, great company and ready for forever!
See what he is bringing to the table here then come back to read more about him! https://youtu.be/aMf5YB7lvvs

Dominic became a fast favorite of everyone here for more than his good looks. His happy sunshine face and general good-natured personality are magnetic! A perfect passenger prince, enjoys going out in the rain, house and crate trained, self-entertaining….seriously the more I think about it- he is pretty great... Ill race you to apply for him!

Estimated to be 4 years old and weighing 57 lbs, Dominic had us all guessing at what breed mix he might be. We can’t say with 100% confidence with any rescue dog but this boy here feels like a shot in the dark for us, so if you adopt him and get his DNA results can you share them? It’ll help settle some bets. We have a couple bets on German Shepherd/Australian Shepherd, all in.

Dominic is so fortunate and is being fostered in a loving home with a truly dedicated and dog-savvy family. House and crate trained is just the beginning, they teach and insist their fosters have good house manners and mind basic commands. Dominic is living along-side his foster's two female pitties and is doing great, showing respect for their boundaries, taking corrections well, and learning more and more about dog manners and group play. He is dog-friendly but has an enthusiastic approach to play that doesn’t suit every dog. Dominic would flourish in a home with a confident, moderately playful female dog who can help guide him as he learns the ropes. He may be mature age-wise with a puppy like excitement when meeting new dogs, and an eagerness to please that makes him a fast learner. Whether its a correction from a dog or guidance from his person, he adjusts his approach/behavior easily..

His foster has shared his obvious love of outdoor adventures, and you can see he is practically built for it. With a love of the water, he will be in heaven as your hiking companion, especially if the trial leads to a lake/pond/waterfall he can enjoy-he is a true water lover. It’s worth mentioning that his love of water does not stop when it comes to rain. Some water loving dogs hate the rain and it can make you crazy when potty time is feared on account of a bit of a storm, not here though! One area he is working on that he will likely need continued support in mastering is with his leash skills. He currently pulls a bit when he is eager but corrects easily. He may need some leash work, but his enthusiasm for walks and meeting new friends show his love of life and how ready he is to experience all the things that come with being a loved pet.

Because of his size and energy, Dominic would do best in a home with older kids and no cats, as he’s still working on his boundaries with smaller animals and his enthusiasm for play could knock over a little one on unsteady legs. He would both love and thrive in a home with a dog-friend to bounce around with and take naps in the shade next to. But don’t worry, despite his love of a good romp, you will often find him laying around with a toy or chewie. We love a a self-entertaining dog! A yard to stretch those long legs, and for all those games of chase, would be best but isn’t absolutely necessary.

Personality wise, Dominic can be described as a gentleman, who is both social and a touch silly. He is happy to see you, and greets strangers with a welcoming energy, never pushy or demanding of attention.

Dominic has classic good dog potential, he is most of the way there but a forever family of his own and experiencing life by your side, is what will bring out that last bit of perfection. If any part of you thinks Dominic is the one, apply now! Don’t let him get away! To the slight sadness of his adoring foster, we know he is going to be adopted too quick.

If you have any questions about Dominic or are ready to move forward by applying, here is all the info you need.

Why adopt from Three Little Pitties?

The stray and animal overpopulation in the Greater Houston area is the highest in the nation. Statistics show that there are over 1 million homeless animals in this region alone. Three Little Pitties Rescue is a nonprofit dog and cat rescue that partners with the community to make a difference. Our mission is to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and saving all breeds of dogs and cats from the streets or animal shelters that oftentimes have no other option but to euthanize animals for space. This dog you’ve found online is lucky to be in our program, and even luckier to have you notice it!

Three Little Pitties wants to set you and your new pet up for success! We know our dogs and we work hard to prepare them socially for adoption. We are a network of dedicated people who are heavily invested in seeing our animals thrive. From the moment they are accepted into our program, our Intake, Behavior & Medical teams prepare them for adoption by properly vetting, behaviorally assessing, and providing customized plans depending on the dog’s needs. We seek to adopt to families who understand that these are rescue dogs and will require continued training efforts, but will be well on their way to being the best dogs that they can be!

It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these special perks:

• 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion (must register within 24 hours of first vet appt.)
• A free private online dog training session with GoodPup plus low pricing for future sessions (approx $25 weekly for an 8 week course of one session per week)
• One free bonus toy in every BarkBox when signing up for their Super Chewer subscription plan
• 70% off of your first order of Fetch, a PNW based, organic fresh dog food loaf meal subscription plan
• Coupons for a fun visit to Petco
• Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup!

We celebrated our 5 year anniversary this year! Through the combined efforts of all of our hardworking staff and volunteers, we have placed over 12,000 very lucky dogs and cats into amazing homes! By adopting from us, you save TWO lives! The pet you adopt, and you create an opportunity for another animal to be saved in that spot. Together, we can be heroes.
