My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

LOCATION: Wetumka, Oklahoma
DOB: 12/09/2021 (Estimate)

Meet Buddy, a young black male Great Dane who's ready to embark on a new chapter filled with love, harmony, and the respect he truly deserves. Despite a rocky start involving bullying from a few other dogs he has lived with, Buddy is a resilient and good-natured boy seeking a forever home where he can flourish.
This handsome pup has the scars of battles past, but they are healing. They are just reminders of his strength and determination to find the perfect loving home. Buddy may have faced challenges, but he's ready to leave them behind and embrace the joy that life has to offer.
Buddy has a passion for car rides and is full of energy when playtime beckons. However, the majority of the time he is a couch potato extraordinaire – a true snuggle bug with a touch of sloth-like charm.
As Buddy continues to learn the ropes of free roam, he appreciates a secure kennel when humans are away. Although he doesn’t really mind the kennel, he’s been known to try to get out. He's working on leash manners because he does tend to pull a bit and he is making strides towards understanding commands. He does know sit, stay, and we are working on laying down. His toy box is a treasure trove, filled with stuffies that make noise, yet remarkably, he refrains from tearing them apart. He's a playful tease, encouraging others to engage in a game of “try to take my toy”, showcasing his silly side. If you succeed, he expects you to throw it up in the air and watch him catch it. Impressive toy skills!
He shows no food or toy aggression and will patiently sit and wait while you prepare to feed him. Potty trained and with a unique way of signaling when nature calls, Buddy is a clever communicator. He will direct you to his leash or the door to indicate his need to go out. Bath time may not be his favorite, but once he's in, he cooperates like a champ. Meeting new people requires a slow introduction, but once the ice is broken, Buddy eagerly seeks attention and affection, often planting his bottom in their laps for some well-deserved petting. He has not experienced any feline interactions so cats are an unknown. A home with no kids would be ideal.
In search of the perfect home, Buddy dreams of a yard where he can zoom and play before settling down for a cozy nap. He has done some growling and barking at other dogs that he sees passing by, but he has shown little interest at the vet if he passes by another canine.. Please be part of his journey to finding comfort and security. Buddy has shown no food aggression and is a loving soul, making him an ideal companion for someone willing to provide patient training, kindness, and support.
If you can offer Buddy the safety and protection he craves, you'll discover a true good boy ready to share a lifetime of love and joy. Embrace the opportunity to be a part of Buddy's story, and watch as he transforms into the delightful companion he's meant to be.

More about this rescue

To rescue Great Danes from neglect, abuse, and abandonment while providing medical care and individual rehabilitation through our experienced and loving foster home program until we are able to provide each rescued Dane with a qualified, caring, and permanent home that will ensure a good quality of life they deserve.

To assist owners that cannot afford spaying, neutering or heartworm treatment as funds allow while also educating owners on affordable, local spay/neuter clinics, spay/neuter benefits, vaccinations, backyard breeding, behavior, nutrition, and obedience. Additionally, we want to be a link point to other rescues and clubs. Raising awareness around rescues and the Great Dane breed is of great importance to us.

We have been rescuing Great Danes since 2011 and we take pride in the collective love, concern, and dedication we have given to the misunderstood and forgotten Danes. It is our mission to continue to be the voices of the less fortunate Danes and to provide them safety and their birthright to a quality of life filled with love and dignity. You can help us achieve our mission by donating funds, items from our wishlist, items of relevance, your time through volunteering, or by lending your home as a foster.
