My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Gracie arrived at an NCCR foster home 9/13/24, rescued from life as a breeding dog. She is a 4 1/2-year-old Miniature Poodle weighing just over 8 lbs. Her foster mom has this to say: “She is potty pad trained, sort of! We're working on it. If she's taken outside several times a day, she doesn't need the pads. If she starts pacing and going in circles, leash her up and take her out - she has to go #2. Gracie surprised me with her gentle easy-going manner. She loves to be massaged, but doesn't need to be in your lap (she will if you want it). She doesn't bite, nip, growl or show any fear or aggression. She will bark at animals on TV, but she doesn't seem to be very vocal otherwise. She learned to play in 2 days’ time; she likes toys but doesn't really know what to do with them yet. She responds to the squeaky ones! Gracie will follow you all around the house. And she walks really well on a simple loop leash. She loves rolling around in the grass. She doesn't mind being in her crate. When I'm working, she'll opt for her open crate, instead of being on the sofa across the room. At night, she settles right into sleep when the door is closed. When I leave the house, she's quiet and sleeps. She doesn't like a lot of stuff in her crate. A towel/small blanket on the bottom and a small bed. If you put more in it, she will scratch until she hits the crate floor and huddle there. She has learned the "leave it" command. She eats well and drinks even better. Gracie is super smart and learns quickly. She does have a lot of energy, so it's important to take her out walking several times a day to burn off the energy. She is the cutest, most sweet-tempered companion you could ever want!”

If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an  Adoption Application found on the website at caninerescue.org.   *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. It takes a lot of time to process the applications, so we ask for your patience while we do so. If you see that the dog you were interested in has been adopted it means there were many applications for that dog and we did not get as far as processing your application before a home was found. We welcome you to apply again if you see another dog that interests you.   If you have a question, please email your question to adoptions@caninerescue.org. It is much easier and quicker for us to respond by email as we receive many phone calls each day.

We do adopt out of state, however we do not transport or ship dogs. Potential adopter must be able and willing to travel to the Rescue to meet the dog they are interested in.

*PLEASE double check all of the phone numbers that you provide as if they are incorrect, we will be unable to process your application. Please also let your references know that someone from NCCR will be calling them. Most adoption team members call from their personal phone so advise your references that there may be an unknown number or a private number calling them.
