My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rowdy is being fostered in West Plains, Missouri.

If only dogs could talk, we would love to hear this boy's story.  Rowdy is a 6 year old standard red merle male Australian Shepherd, currently weighing 46 pounds.  He came to us after his owner suddenly passed away.  He wasn't at her home long and prior to that, we understand he was a breeder.  Rowdy was barely in his adoptive home long enough to get comfy when his owner unexpectedly passed. Rowdy is now in the hands of our rescue and we want this beautiful soul to find an adoptive home that will love and cherish him for the remainder of his life.  He is so deserving of that.

Rowdy is in a foster home with 2 other female aussies and a large yard.  He is enjoying the company of the other dogs and gets along well with them.  He also doesn't mind spending the evening relaxing on the couch, catching a NetFlix movie with his humans.  Rowdy is a little shy at first but warms up very quickly. He is very playful and cuddly. Once he gets to know you he won’t want to leave your side. He is definitely a velcro dog and an oversized lap dog!  He is great with other dogs and enjoys zooming around the yard with his foster siblings. He loves toys so he would like to have a home with another canine sibling that is able to share with him. He does good with car rides and loves going for walks. We are not sure about cats.

Rowdy is potty trained and crate trained. He could use some work on his house manners (jumping) and is quickly learning basic commands.  He is very smart and willing to learn especially when there are treats involved!  He just wants all the love and attention! He is pretty energetic but does have an off switch when you just want to chill out in the house.

Rowdy will need an adopter who is dedicated to continuing training and socialization as well as providing physical and mental stimulation daily. Rowdy prefers a fenced in yard to run around in. Because of his size and energy, Rowdy would do best with children over 10 years old.

Rowdy is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and receiving monthly preventatives for fleas, ticks and heartworms.  Proof of heartworms for any prior or current pets is required to adopt from our rescue.

NOTE:  All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers so we need an approved application on file to set up a meet with a dog you might have an interest in.  Please visit our website for more information on our adoption process, our adoption fees and a link to our adoption application.  We pride ourselves on matches that work for both the dog and your family.  MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org

Additional adoption info

Meeting any dog within MASR requires an approved adoption application on file. We process as quickly as possible via volunteers. Then connect an applicant one at a time with a dog and foster home to arrange a meet and greet. If all parties at the meet and greet, including the dog, are in agreement that it is a good fit, the dog goes home that day.
