Athena is a beautiful 3-year old female American Pit Bull Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV on September 19, 2024 by a Good Samaritan who found her on State Route 60 in Washington County Ohio (no specific location provided). Unfortunately Athena was not wearing a collar, and she was not microchipped.
Athena has a white-and-pale brown coat, a long tail, and an adorable chubby face with a large brown patch around her right eye, a milk chocolate nose, and short floppy ears.
These photos of Athena were taken shortly after her arrival on September 19th. This big girl has a super sweet disposition and was quick to politely beg for attention when anyone walked by her kennel.
Athena weighs 73 lbs.
In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Athena was held for three days so that her family would have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership. Surprisingly nobody called or came looking for Athena.
Update: Athena dearly loves attention from her people friends. She is a snuggler who wants to be close to you (and if she can sit in your lap that is even better). Athena is good with children and also does well with other dogs.
We've learned recently that Athena is deaf/hearing-impaired (which may be why she seeks close contact for comfort/security from her human friends. We are listing her as a 'Special Needs Dog' for that reason, but please be assured she is special in so many other ways including her affectionate personality.
Athena spent a few days in a foster home over the 2024 Thanksgiving holiday and did very well with the family. Athena was protective of her food when the family's cat was curious and Athena took offense at the intrusion .. So we'd recommend that Athena be placed in a home without close contact with cats. She was ok with the family's dog, but he wasn't receptive of having a canine guest in his home.
