Special consideration may be granted for dogs with medical needs or bonded pairs.
Savannah – Yellow Female, 1 year, 58 lbs
Savannah is different, but don’t confuse that with disabled. This girl has an uncanny resilience and zest for life. She may need to do some things a little differently or maybe a bit slower than some, but you can bet she is still going to do them! The options are endless for her: playing ball, taking an evening stroll, obedience training, and so many more!
Her backstory:
Savannah was seen roaming at large, injured with a severely broken right front leg just before the Labor Day weekend and was reported to Animal Control. Unfortunately, she wasn’t picked up until the Tuesday after Labor Day, and by that time the broken leg had become severely infected, putting her life in grave danger. When the team at LRRF found out about her situation, they were able to step in and commit to covering the vet bills to save her life. The best and only course of action by that time was to amputate her front leg. After a couple of days in the hospital, she was released to her foster mom and has been on the mend ever since, learning to navigate life as a tripod. Savannah also had a prolapsed gland on her eyelid (cherry eye) which was corrected while she was spayed.
Savannah is well behaved in the house, though believe it or not, counter-surfing is a habit to be addressed. She is crate trained and sleeps contently through the night; of course, a spot on your bed would suit her just as well. She walks well on a leash all things considered. It will take some time to learn better balance and develop muscles to travel in a straighter line. Playing fetch and chilling with her people makes her a happy dog! As with any young lab, she will need continued training and regular exercise; she is treat motivated and very trainable.
Savannah is a healthy, active girl despite being a tripod; she is already spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and now ready to find her forever family. If you are looking for that perfect addition to your family, one that will be by your side anytime, day or night, and is up for sharing your adventures, submit your online application at www.labrescuefresno.org.
