My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you're searching for the most devoted and loving best friend ever....Sprout is the guy you want to have around!

Sweet Sprout, at approximately 8ish years old and 15 lbs is just naturally a lover. When he looks at you with those gorgeous dark eyes and sweet smile, your heart just has to melt.

Sprout is a sweet as can be Miniature Poodle / Bichon Frise mix (as identified by Texas veterinarians. All we know for certain is that this guy is irresistible!) with all the traits that make these super- smart and personality-plus dogs very popular and beloved breed mixes.

Farfel's Rescue received a plea from a small Texas shelter to save Sprout's life. He was at risk of euthanasia due to a lack of space. They described this gorgeous dog as wonderful with a very sweet and loving temperament once he's comfortable in his environment.

Sweet Sprout's owner went to a nursing home and he was left alone in the world. Animal Control picked this scared guy up and dropped him off at a terrifying shelter where only minutes later, Sprout was recognized for an excellent temperament. He's now safe and sound preparing for his freedom ride to Colorado and a brand new life.

From Sprout's foster:
"This little guy is a perfect lap dog with a kind and loving nature! My favorite time of day is when Mr Sprout jumps up on the office couch and cuddles in my arms. He just makes me feel so calm and happy! I couldn't recommend this little guy enough for anyone who is searching for a hypoallergenic dog who will be their best friend and full-time best friend.
Sprout has a weird thing about the harness, where he gets scared when you clip it on. For this reason, we walk him on a slip lead instead. He will need time to decompress in a new home, but given just a day or two he warms up fast and shows how sweet and cuddly he is.
Also, he is great with the cat!! Totally cat-friendly!"

Sprout will have so much fun exploring and taking long walks along Colorado's gorgeous paths and trails. Meeting other walkers and hikers is right down this friendly guy's alley. He is always open to new activities...just say the word and up Sprout jumps for a car ride, a fun backyard game or just a sociable walk around the neighborhood.

Sprout's Texas rescuer had the following to brag about this sweet guy:

Sprout is a very gentle and sweet guy who has had a very tough couple of weeks . But through it all, he's maintained his smile and positive attitude. He's great with other dogs and kind humans, likes to play and is working on his bravery (and making great progress) after being abandoned and relinquished to an overcrowded shelter.

Farfel's Rescue would like to see Sprout in a home where he'll get consistent stimulation, exercise and tons of loving hugs. A virtual or in-person positive reinforcement training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence for a tiny guy whose self-esteem will fly high while he masters his skills. Training is so important to the future behaviors of every dog and it's for this reason that we're unwilling to adopt Sprout out to a family that doesn't make this loving choice. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of both in-person and virtual positive reinforcement / force- free trainers in your area.

Sprout will require a lifelong commitment to periodic grooming (approximately every 8 - 10 weeks or so) as well as excellent nutrition (5 star food and a daily salmon oil supplement are great lifelong protocols for coat care and general health) to keep his hair cottony-soft, super-healthy and matte-free.

Sprout has been fully vetted (passed with flying colors), vaccinated and neutered to fulfill Farfel's commitment to only adopting out healthy dogs that won't contribute to the overpopulation crisis in the canine population.

Sprout is available for adoption now! Applications are currently being accepted for this very sweet, loving and loyal best friend. An application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit.

**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Sprout please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.

An Adoption Application and an Adoption Contract must be completed before any dog can begin their one week foster. Our average adoption fee is $695. This amount serves to cover vetting, spay/neuter, all vaccinations, temperament testing, transport, a microchip, harness, food, and treats.
Our dogs come from Texas, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and rural Colorado.

Go meet their pets

Pets are transported from the southern states every week. Almost 100% of the time, the dogs are spoken for as a result of adoption applications that can be referenced under Adoption at farfelsrescue.com. We study the applications. If the app indicates there is a match, followed up by a home visit and reference checks, the process moves to the next step. The adopter is committing to a one week foster (of course the dog can be returned at any time prior), and can then choose to finalize the adoption.

More about this rescue

We own a pet boutique named Farfel's Farm & Rescue on Pearl Street in Boulder, Colorado. We have had the good fortune to find our niche in the Boulder community and experience success. We felt it very important to "pay it forward" in gratitude. We couldn't think of a better endeavor than to save dogs who were out of time in the southern states, yet had been identified with great temperaments. We dedicate our efforts to their good health and ultimate wonderful, permanent homes.
