My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

9/17/24: Meet Rascal, a charming 7-year-old (approximately) Chihuahua mix who weighs just 13 pounds. When Rascal first arrived, he was a bit unsure of indoor life—floors and cushy surfaces were all new to him. But with time and patience, he’s become a confident, well-adjusted house guest. He’s reliably potty trained and comfortable with his crate, where he sleeps soundly, though he’s also happy to snuggle up on the bed with you.

Rascal may have needed a bit of time to warm up to other animals, but now he’s playful and affectionate, enjoying both playtime and cuddles with his furry foster-siblings. However, he still prefers to snuggle with his human whenever he can. He’s good with children who understand and respect his need for personal space sometimes.

One of Rascal’s biggest loves is food. His enthusiasm at mealtime is pure joy, often accompanied by an adorable "happy dance." He’s a pro with food puzzle toys, using his tiny paws with impressive skill, though he hasn’t shown much interest in other toys just yet. His playful antics and quirky movements make him quite the little comedian.

Rascal enjoys chewing on bully sticks and collagen sticks, but he hasn’t shown any interest in chewing household items or toys. He’s a relaxed, low-key companion who adores cuddling and napping, making him an ideal house dog.

Rascal will come to his new home with a generous supply of essentials, including his bed and crate. If you’re interested in meeting this delightful little guy, please reach out, because he is ready to bring his warmth and humor into a loving home!

More about this rescue

Offers a large and varied selection of pets available for adoption. Mostly mixed breeds, large and small, young and old. All waiting for that special person or family to love and be loved by.

We operate an "all breeds" pet rescue and adoption program. We do not operate a shelter and never euthanize a healthy animal. All of our animals are in volunteer foster homes until they find good adoptive homes. We have no paid staff, this is an all volunteer organization. While this gives our pets a more caring environment, it also limits the number of pets we can take into our system at a time.

We are the oldest Humane Society operating in California, with over 100 years of history. This history pre-dates the annexation of Redlands as a city. Our historical documents are on display at the Smiley Library in Redlands. Our current program, "Operation Second Chance" has been our focus since 1997.
