My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Hartford was brought in by our Humane Law Enforcement.

Why special Hartford might be the one for you:

Meet Hartford, a very sweet 5-year-old female who is looking for an adults only, dog savvy home with folks who understand the need for patience and compassion. Hartford is in a foster home with another dog and the two dogs have quickly become best buddies so it might be best for Hartford to join a household with a resident mellow dog. In her foster home, Hartford is making great strides in her leash training and is learning to embrace the world outside her home. Hartford's foster mom says that Hartford LOVES pets, loves cuddles in bed and on the sofa, wiggles her tail and wags her body - or maybe it is the other way around! Hartford is smart and responds well to positive training. She has learned the basic down, touch, find it and turn commands. She is on to learning more commands and is looking forward to learning real dog tricks. Hartford does better with a yard and folks who are home most of the time. She may start off shy at first, as is her nature, but with just a little love and patience, Hartford will blossom into a wonderful companion for you, your family and perhaps your other dog!

At SDHS:
Hartford has been vaccinated, microchipped and spayed/neutered and is now ready for her new home!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
