We love our Lucy! And she is showing to be the warmest of red heads here at HSWC comedy club. When we first met her we thought her personality landed somewhere between the wacky Lucy Ricardo and the wise and perky Lucy Van Pelt. Step into the booth and she will tell you all you need to know about life.
🐾 She can be quick and spirited right out of her cubbie, but once she gets her business done, she settles down to listen to all of your problems.
Now that we have gotten to know her a bit and she has settled as one of the regulars, we are getting more of a strawberry shortcake vibe from her.
As you easily stroll up the road together on the walk, she checks in often to make sure she is meeting your needs. She has cream puff sweetness about her that lingers with you.
Her refreshingly polite manners include:
"come"- either with or without a hug...
"off" - no dancing right now please.
"Sit"- treat please!
"Watch me" Beautiful eye contact.
She is getting the hang of give "paw."
This sweet little gal is berry smart. 43 pounds.
Easily trainable and digs using her brain. Learning is a price of cake for her.
She could benefit from some confidence building: Some back hair rises when she seems new things:
Cats seem new to her. She can walk by and focus on you and sit and take treat in their presence with no agitation from her or the cats.
The doctor is in ...and recommends giving every animal their space for the first two weeks so they can observe with peace not feel threatened. In Lucy's case introductions should be gradual so to establish positive interactions and not rush her.
She walks by other dogs very casually and always seems to offer encouragement:
"Keep your eye on the ball Chico!"
Lucy has layers of fun, she is very easy to be around and time spent with her is not hard work but very enjoyable! This gal is more sweet than sass.
Come and visit her. She is a slice of delight.
Update: as she is settling in, she is getting more bouncy and adventurous on walks.

Our adoption fees are as follows:

Puppy (0-12 months): $200
Adult Dog (1-5 years): $175
Senior Dog (6+ years): $85

Senior to Senior Program: any person over 65 yrs of age wanting to adopt any pet over 7 yrs of age: adoption fee is waived

Kitten (0-12 months): $75
Adult Cat (1-5 years): $50
Senior Cat (6+ years): $25

Adoption fee includes basic vaccinations, worming, flea treatment, feline-leukemia/FIV test, heartworm test, spay/neuter (done prior to leaving), rabies vaccination and a microchip

There is a contract and all potential adopters meet with adoption counselor to talk about application and make sure pet is good fit with the person and family. A "meet and greet" is required with all family members and the pet prior to finalizing the adoption application. If someone is adopting a dog and has another dog at home, we also require a "meet and greet" for the dogs as well. All animals in the home must be up to date on vaccinations prior to new pet going home. We do not adopt to people who will keep the pet outside exclusively. We may do a home visit either pre or post-adoption. Animals adopted from us are not be sold or given to another person. We verify all information on the adoption application and may deny an application with any false information on it. A follow up call or visit is done on all adoptions within first 30 days of adoption.

The Humane Society of Wicomico County was started in 1968 by a group of people who wanted to help improve the lives of animals. We have come a long way in our 40+ years! We have a staff dedicated to making sure the animals that come to our doors are loved and protected as they wait for their forever home. Not only are our animals vaccinated, wormed and given flea preventative, we can treat animals that come to us with mange, ringworm, heartworm and pay for animals to be seen by an outside vet should there be a need. We have an on-site spay/neuter clinic that not only is used for our animals but we also offer low cost spay/neuter for animals of the public. We provide emergency boarding for victims of domestic abuse, fire, and medical emergencies. We also have the capability to set up an off-site emergency shelter for people evacuated from their homes. In addition, we have an education program to help teach kids about being a responsible pet guardian. We work with a wide range of rescue groups and our animals have been transported from our mid-Atlantic area throughout the North Eastern United States. Our shelter is an open admission shelter and we will take in approximately 3500 animals this year. We do what we do because of our love for animals and our desire to make a difference in their lives every single day.
