My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading the information you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you!

Molly is an adorable 12 year old, ready to start the next chapter of her life. She was surrendered to the rescue because her previous owner was in a nursing home and could no longer take care of her.

Molly is has a soft tan and white coat that perfectly complements her beautiful brown eyes. She loves to follow her foster parents around and likes to be with people. Molly sleeps in the bedroom with her foster parents – either in a dog bed or sometimes directly under the bed. Molly adapted quickly to her foster family and is used to a schedule of going out 4-5 times a day. She is house trained and has not had any accidents since coming to her foster family. Molly currently has two foster dog siblings that she gets along with well. She is overweight and needs a family who will not feed her table scraps and will keep her on a nutritious well balanced diet. While in her foster home, she has been on a reduced calorie dog food and her foster parents have been diligent about walking her. She had not previously been taken on walks and she has quickly gained more energy and stamina and now enjoys going for a walk! And she loves to greet all the neighbors.

The following are requirements for Molly’s adoption:

1. A family that will include her in their daily activities and will provide her with a walk daily, will play with her and/or provide a yard with plenty of room for exercise. She would do well with a family where someone is home most of the time as she is content to lay near anyone who is at home.

2. Molly would do best with an adults only home but a family with children over the age of ten, who understand how to be gentle and respectful of small dogs, will be considered.

3. Live within 30 minutes of Fridley, MN.

4. Agree to attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held in September of each year.

Molly is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. Health Note: Molly is having dental work done in October and is on a low-calorie diet. She is enjoying the benefit of eating healthy food and daily exercise. Her new family must be willing to continue to feed Molly only healthy dog food (no people food!) to reduce her weight, and givie her the necessary exercise so that she will live a long, healthy life.

Molly’s adoption fee is $170.00 plus $14.49 in sales tax, totaling $184.49. To meet Molly, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see Molly and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 a.m. to noon the first Saturday of every month at the Southdale Petco in Bloomington, Minnesota.

Molly is a sweet girl who is ready for a new permanent family that will provide her with the love, cuddles and playtime she deserves.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The first part of the adoption process is to submit an APPLICATION FOR ADOPTION online at www.shihtzurescuemn.org.

Once you have completed and submitted the application, it will be reviewed by an application committee who will decide if it is an appropriate application for one of our Shih Tzus or for a particular dog in which you are interested.

The application gives us an idea of your living situation, your family, your lifestyle, and what you are really looking for in a companion. As everyone knows, the requirements and expectations for dogs all vary, and like humans, each one has its own character and personality. With regards to dogs, some are mellow and just need a place where they can be a companion to people and relax and live out their lives. Others are more active or like the companionship of another dog. But they all need to be in homes where they are understood and loved unconditionally.

After reviewing the adoption application, an adoption coordinator will call for a phone interview to chat further about the dog and you. Upon completion of the phone interview we check your references to make sure that you are, in fact, who you represent yourself to be as both a person and prospective dog parent.

The next step is to verify your living situation. Once again, all dogs have different requirements, an example being that some dogs really need to go to homes where a fenced yard is available, whereas others are fine without a fenced yard. We also need to make sure that you are the owner of the home that you reside in, and if you are not, then we need to get consent from your landlord that the dog you are looking to adopt will be allowed in your home.

Finally, we will do a visit to your home, where all family members must be present, and you will get to meet the dog you are considering. Hopefully the visit will tell us that this is the match we hope it will be! At that point, if it is true love, then you may welcome your fantastic new Shih Tzu into your home for the beginning of what we are certain will be a wonderful, loving forever relationship. Please understand that it is the decision of the foster parent as to whether the family, home and dog are an appropriate match.

We require that you sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee for the dog. All dogs adopted from us are fully vetted (vaccinated, heartworm tested, dewormed (if necessary), and spayed/neutered). The adoption fee is based on the age of the dog and ranges from $100 to $400.

More about this rescue

Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota (STRMN) is an all volunteer organization with a mission to Rescue, Rehabilitate, and Re-Home Shih Tzus and Shih Tzu mixes who are in need of loving homes. We believe every dog should have a second chance, and should be treated as a living creature with respect, dignity and compassion. While our volunteers are located in Minnesota, we are committed to rescuing Shih Tzus from other states as well. As long as we have an available foster home, we will rescue and care for another Shih Tzu. STRMN is a 501c3 charitable, non profit organization. All donations to STRMN are tax deductable and 100% of donations go toward the care and comfort of our rescued dogs.
