Housebroken: He has been doing well overall with housebreaking, when on a consistent routine with frequent potty breaks, but can still have accidents. He'll need to keep working on this as he adjusts to his new home.
Crate trained: He has struggled to settle when home alone, and has done best with the help of medication. Without meds, he is distressed and cannot settle; with meds, he has been able to be left at home alone in his crate successfully for 1-2 hours.
Leash walking: Working on it! He can become easily overstimulated on walks, and would likely do best in a slightly quieter area.
Dog social: He has done great with the senior dog in his foster home, with whom he loves to play and snuggle. He would likely enjoy having a dog pal in his future home, to help his confidence and provide him companionship.
Cat social: He lives with cats in his foster home and has been doing well with them after a slow, proper intro period.
Kid friendly: Unknown

- Puzzle toys and training! This smart boy loves to use his brain, especially when treats are involved.
- Making you giggle with his antics and poses
Spangles is a silly, playful pup who is an *excellent* snuggler. He's a very gracious house guest who gets along with the resident dog and two resident cats in his foster home. He definitely knows his doggy manners when it comes to other pets, which has helped him fit right in. He has many wonderful, goofy poses for "dog assembly required" memes and will keep you laughing all day! Spangles does not love being home without his people, and would appreciate a patient adopter who can help him continue to work on his separation distress as he adjusts to his new home and routine.
Spangles's adoption fee is $300, and he is eager to snuggle up with his future family!

We are limiting the amount of visitors on site, so you may be asked to be added to the waitlist when you arrive. More about this rescue
One Tail at a Time (OTAT) started as a backup plan for dogs that were not getting adopted or rescued by other groups in the area shelters. Over the years we have experienced consistent and steady growth: we are among the top transfer partners for dogs at Chicago Animal Care and Control (CACC) and for cats at several open intake shelters in Indiana, we have a robust transport program in which dogs are rescued from high-kill shelters in southern states, and we are even able to pull dogs from a rescue partner in Tulum, Mexico to help them get adopted in the Chicagoland area. Our growth has been, and continues to be, due to the overwhelming support received from our community.
Members enable us to take on complex medical cases and continue to grow our annual intake numbers. Volunteers have continued to line up to foster and care for dogs, cats, rabbits, and guinea pigs, to take on leadership roles, and to help build One Tail at a Time into a well-known and respected rescue organization in Chicago and beyond.
Due to our continuous growth and immensely supportive community of members, volunteers, fosters, adopters, and more, we have evolved into the One Tail at a Time Cooperative!
