My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This little cutie boy is named Dakota! Dakota is good with other dogs, cat-tolerant, sooo people-friendly, and a mellow cool little guy all around. He has great basic leash skills, amazing house manners and the perfect level of sociability to be a great “take anywhere and everywhere” dog.

Dakota is a petite, scruffy Mini Schnauzer mix, around 3 years old, and weighing in around 25 pounds. He is a rescue, so exact age and breed are unknown to us and cannot be guaranteed.

Meet Dakota here: https://youtu.be/FaVWCWSlTaM?si=MQELCrz--a4T7ACD

Dakota is a great dog, cat-tolerant and dog-friendly enough to fit into just about any animal lover’s home, and perfectly people-loving. Dakota is a social little guy that will approach strangers for pets, but it’s a calm, gentle invitation to socialize- not the over-zealous slobbery kisses that can frighten new friends away. He’s so pettable too, down-right adorable with his scruffy little coat and big brown eyes. Take him out on little doggy-dates and watch him make new friends in every passing stranger, Dakota would love movie nights in the park, outdoor restaurants, and walks in the city!

Dakota has great basic leash skills, and he comes when called. Here at the rescue, he’s had zero indoor accidents! This boy is so well behaved, such a snugglebug, and a curious little explorer of the world!

Dakota is great with other dogs. He shares affection well, and tandem walks well. He’s a sweet boy, but not overly playful with other dogs. Dakota wasn’t very interested in play, but he was very tolerant with one of our more playful pitties.

Here at the rescue, Dakota was cat-tested by our behavior team. He didn’t mind our housecat Tom, and ignored him. He is cat-tolerant and could live with dog-savvy kitties. See Dakota’s cat test for yourself in his video.

Dakota’s perfect home has a lap to lay on, a soft couch to snuggle on, and he’s not too picky about the rest. He could fit in in just about any animal lover’s home. Dakota is small, sweet and quiet enough to thrive in an apartment. This sweet boy is ready to meet his forever family, and with his sweet and social demeanor, I’m sure he’ll be fast friends with his new pet parents! We are willing to test Dakota with anything you need us to in order to ensure he’s the perfect match for you! We can make most anything happen! Just let us know.

Why adopt from Three Little Pitties?

The stray and animal overpopulation in the Greater Houston area is the highest in the nation. Statistics show that there are over 1 million homeless animals in this region alone. Three Little Pitties Rescue is a nonprofit dog and cat rescue that partners with the community to make a difference. Our mission is to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and saving all breeds of dogs and cats from the streets or animal shelters that oftentimes have no other option but to euthanize animals for space. This dog you’ve found online is lucky to be in our program, and even luckier to have you notice it!

Three Little Pitties wants to set you and your new pet up for success! We know our dogs and we work hard to prepare them socially for adoption. We are a network of dedicated people who are heavily invested in seeing our animals thrive. From the moment they are accepted into our program, our Intake, Behavior & Medical teams prepare them for adoption by properly vetting, behaviorally assessing, and providing customized plans depending on the dog’s needs. We seek to adopt to families who understand that these are rescue dogs and will require continued training efforts, but will be well on their way to being the best dogs that they can be!

It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these special perks:

• 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion (must register within 24 hours of first vet appt.)
• A free private online dog training session with GoodPup plus low pricing for future sessions (approx $25 weekly for an 8 week course of one session per week)
• One free bonus toy in every BarkBox when signing up for their Super Chewer subscription plan
• 70% off of your first order of Fetch, a PNW based, organic fresh dog food loaf meal subscription plan
• Coupons for a fun visit to Petco
• Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup!

We celebrated our 5 year anniversary this year! Through the combined efforts of all of our hardworking staff and volunteers, we have placed over 12,000 very lucky dogs and cats into amazing homes! By adopting from us, you save TWO lives! The pet you adopt, and you create an opportunity for another animal to be saved in that spot. Together, we can be heroes.
