My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This golden lover boy is named Colt. A naturally wonderful temperament, seriously impressive social skills, cat-tolerance and tail-wagginess make Colt the dreamiest dog out there.

Colt is a cool, calm and composed boy, weighing in at a huggable 57 pounds. We believe that he’s a yellow lab mix, around 2 years old. Colt is a rescue, so his exact age and breed are unknown to us and cannot be guaranteed. Colt is still just a baby, ready to find his forever family soon.

Fall in love with Colt here: https://youtu.be/D7mVOs5vmt0?si=x2rfvM-DwNxokjtm

Colt’s foster family describes him as a couch potato. He shares his foster home with around 5 other dogs, and multiple cats. You can usually find Colt stretched out on a dog bed, or hanging out with the kitties. He has such a trusting and kind nature to him, and a quiet joyfulness. He’s not jumpy, mouthy or pushy, but he’s always ready to give you a little tail wag, or a kiss on your face. With new people, Colt opens up pretty quickly, he’s very trusting and approaches people for affection quickly.

Colt is seriously amazing with other dogs. Here at the rescue, his dog-savvy nature impressed our behavior team! He is incredibly submissive and tolerant with other dogs, but he knows how and when to give a correction. Because of his strong dog-to-dog communication skills, we’re confident that he could fit in with just about any pack. Here at the rescue, he was cat tested by our behavior team. He was unfazed by our house cat Tom, he is cat-tolerant and could live with dog-savvy kitties.

Colt has great basic leash skills, and he’s an excellent co-pilot in the car! His foster mom has taken him to the vet a few times, and he’s always very happy, sociable and friendly with vet staff. He remains very focused on his people when in public, and responds well to gentle verbal cues. Colt would be an easy dog to take to your favorite dog friendly shops, restaurants and parks.

Colt’s perfect home would have at least one loving human to call his own. Colt could really fit into any pack, but he is people-focused enough to thrive as a solo-dog. Colt is calm, gentle and quiet enough to thrive as an apartment dog. We haven’t seen Colt around kids, or had him kid tested yet, but considering the whole of his personality- we would bet that he would make an awesome family dog. If you have kids, and Colt has caught your eye, fill out an adoption application and request a kid test! We are willing to test Colt with anything you need us to in order to ensure he’s the perfect match for you! We can make most anything happen! Just let us know.

Why adopt from Three Little Pitties?

The stray and animal overpopulation in the Greater Houston area is the highest in the nation. Statistics show that there are over 1 million homeless animals in this region alone. Three Little Pitties Rescue is a nonprofit dog and cat rescue that partners with the community to make a difference. Our mission is to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and saving all breeds of dogs and cats from the streets or animal shelters that oftentimes have no other option but to euthanize animals for space. This dog you’ve found online is lucky to be in our program, and even luckier to have you notice it!

Three Little Pitties wants to set you and your new pet up for success! We know our dogs and we work hard to prepare them socially for adoption. We are a network of dedicated people who are heavily invested in seeing our animals thrive. From the moment they are accepted into our program, our Intake, Behavior & Medical teams prepare them for adoption by properly vetting, behaviorally assessing, and providing customized plans depending on the dog’s needs. We seek to adopt to families who understand that these are rescue dogs and will require continued training efforts, but will be well on their way to being the best dogs that they can be!

It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these special perks:

• 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion (must register within 24 hours of first vet appt.)
• A free private online dog training session with GoodPup plus low pricing for future sessions (approx $25 weekly for an 8 week course of one session per week)
• One free bonus toy in every BarkBox when signing up for their Super Chewer subscription plan
• 70% off of your first order of Fetch, a PNW based, organic fresh dog food loaf meal subscription plan
• Coupons for a fun visit to Petco
• Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup!

We celebrated our 5 year anniversary this year! Through the combined efforts of all of our hardworking staff and volunteers, we have placed over 12,000 very lucky dogs and cats into amazing homes! By adopting from us, you save TWO lives! The pet you adopt, and you create an opportunity for another animal to be saved in that spot. Together, we can be heroes.
