Alf's journey began under heartbreaking circumstances. A photo of him, found abandoned on the side of a country road lying on rocks near a ditch, revealed a dog who had seemingly given up on life. A family member eventually picked him up and brought him to a veterinarian, requesting euthanasia. Thankfully, the vet refused and the family reached out to Lucky 13 Rescue, though the family member continued to request euthanasia.
At Lucky 13 Rescue, we are committed to giving a voice to dogs like Alf. We do not make decisions about euthanasia without thorough evaluation by our medical team. Upon examination, we discovered a glimmer of hope in Alf, a life deserving of care and compassion, even if his time might be limited.
One of our dedicated fosters, who had seen the urgent plea for help on Facebook, eagerly stepped forward to offer Alf the compassionate care he so deserved. Upon arrival, Alf was in critical condition: emaciated, with significant fur loss, skin infections, multiple tumors, severe ear infections, and dental issues. Most heartbreaking of all, he had lost his trust in humans.
We provided Alf with a quiet, comfortable space and nourishing food. After nearly a week of rest and recuperation, he gradually began to show interest in his new surroundings and became more active.
Nearly three months later, Alf has undergone two surgeries to remove tumors and damaged teeth, and has received extensive treatment for his skin infections. Despite a persistent severe ear infection and significant neglect revealed by his histopathology, we have managed his condition with medications and injections. While his fur may only grow back in small patches, Alf's spirit remains unbroken.
Today, Alf, a senior dog of approximately 12 years old, demonstrates remarkable resilience. He enjoys restful naps on his soft bed, gentle walks, affectionate cuddles, and the occasional treat. His calm demeanor and low energy make him an ideal companion for those seeking a serene and loving friend. Despite the challenges he has faced, Alf continues to radiate love and appreciation.
If you're searching for a loyal and tranquil companion, Alf is your perfect match. His adoption fee is $100. You can apply to meet him and adopt by filling out our adoption application at lucky13rescue.org.
