My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

** $115 in pledges to the rescue that pulls **

Flufflestiltskin ACCT-A-172771 is a 4-year-old male who came in as a stray on 8/28. The finder noted the following about Flufflestiltskin, "back legs stiff and bruised, friendly, cuddly, shy, scared and, quiet. During his stay at the shelter, staff has repeatedly checked on the use of his leg and most recently concluded that, though he continues to keep it fully extended, Fluffelstiltskin may be able to regain full use of the limb with physical therapy - an amputation may not be necessary.

Medical notes:

During an exam on 9/8, staff noted:

still ambulating with left hind leg extended and will not attempt to bend or use it, but is starting to regain range of motion and limb is no longer as stiff as it was previously. Can flex and extend and level of the hip and stifle, which was unable to do at all before. Not painful with palpation or manipulations.

Left hindlimb injury with some regain of motion. Suspect previous bite wound injuries may have caused muscle trauma and significant contracture/muscle freezing, and the further out he gets from the injury will regain function with rehabilitation.

Leg amputation no longer appears to be the only option for treatment, and cat may be able to regain full use of the limb with some physical therapy assistance. Ok to make available for foster care too with a dedicated foster who might be able to work on passive range of motion exercises for rehabilitation.

During an exam on 8/28, staff noted:

Brief triage exam only performed. Left hind leg has old healed wounds over the thigh with scar tissue remaining, but no swelling or discharge. The left hind leg has muscle atrophy and is stuck in permanent extension, leg is rigid and unable to bend it at all.

Permanent extension of left hind leg likely secondary to prior trauma since there is healed scar tissue over the thigh region.
