Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Baxter, at last, is ready to go home and he definitely deserves all the best!! This poor fellow went through a challenging journey, and through all those months, he is still the same amazing, sweet, loving, friendly boy as he was when he first arrived. Baxter is eight months old, 63 lbs, fully vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped. The only thing he is missing is a family. Despite the nightmare with his previous owner and the price he had to pay, he's friendly with dogs, humans, and cats, loving and incredible all around, so we want to find him the best family possible.
Baxter is from Texas and spent his life there with an owner who didn't care about him or his health. His leg was badly injured yet he was left untreated and outside in the elements. The sheriff's office stepped in and asked our foster to take him and help with his injured leg. Of course she said yes, and Baxter came to us and received the care he needed to heal his leg. Unfortunately, no paw was left, and half of the leg had no skin. He went to the vet three different times to have his leg amputation surgery done, however, his hemoglobin was dangerously low so we kept having to delay the surgery. During all that time Baxter continued to show us what a fantastic dog he is. Finally, on the third visit, he was able to have the surgery. When his foster mom came back to pick him up just a few hours later - he walked right out of the kennel, through the waiting room, peed and pooped in the vet yard, and then jumped right up into her car as though nothing had happened. Guess he needed no help adapting to three legs!!!
And boy did he adapt - he can do everything a dog with four legs can do. He’s running, playing and enjoying life. For his foster, he will be a hard one to let go! His foster mom says
"This dog is amazing! He is completely house-trained. He knows his name. He knows the commands: sit, lay down, come, get in the car, and no leash is required. He's so smart! Since arriving, he’s always smiling and giving great hugs. No animal should have gone through what he had to his whole life! But not anymore.. only love from here on out! “
Baxter is currently in Texas but will be transported to NJ when adopted.
