My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Caribbean came to Dakin as a stray and has been in foster care taking care of her kittens, but now she's done with motherhood and is ready for some "me" time. Her foster says she's an amazing cat and she wouldn't change a thing about her! She is very loving and while she is content to lay by the window alone, she will be up to greet you as soon as you walk into the room. She enjoyed being petted by the three children in her foster home, but her foster says she's a calm kitty who may appreciate an adult household, where she can just lay around and relax. Caribbean loves to be rubbed, head bumps you for kisses, and doesn't mind an occasional belly rub. She is FIV+ but that doesn't affect her ability to be your next best friend.

FIV is a cat-only virus and does not affect people or dogs. FIV+ cats most often live long, healthy, and relatively normal lives with no symptoms at all. FIV is not easily passed between cats. If you are looking to add an FIV+ cat to your family and you currently have cats that are not FIV+ please speak with your vet.

If you're ready to adopt now and want to learn more about, meet, or adopt this pet, you can start the process in one of two ways:

Come on in during open adoption hours Tuesday - Saturday 12:30-3:00! For in-shelter pets (not in foster care) coming in ASAP is the fastest way to adopt.

**the below two methods are slower than visiting us**
Call us (413-781-4000 x 1) or email us (springfield@dakinhumane.org) for more information about a pet. We are often on the line with another client, but we return voice mail and emails within 24 hours.

All cat adoption fees include;
-spay/neuter
-rabies vaccine
-current distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian)
-FeLV/FIV blood test
-microchip implanted & registered to the adopter
-treatment of fleas/ticks/ear mites
-veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin
-free vet exam within 30 days after adoption with participating veterinarians
Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your new pet.
