Merida About my name: You might recognize the Disney princess from the movie "Brave." My name means worthy or deserving. Truer words were never spoken! I am a 6-year-old, mostly white & Calico girl who was surrendered to the HSHC on August 30 because my owner was moving. I have lived with her since she found me as a stray kitten, but I guess she didn't love me enough to take me along. When I arrived, I was so sad that I stopped eating, and the medical staff found I had a skin infection on my tummy. I've been treated for both situations and am much improved. I live in a Roaming Room with several other cats and am obsessed with the little round bed on a cat tree. I curl up and fit in a perfect little ball. I am a bit shy but friendly and interested in receiving attention. The interviewer lady (IL) approached me quietly, and I meowed a little greeting. After sniffing her hand, I unrolled a smidge so she could pet my head, neck, and back. I didn't mind being awakened as long as I was being loved on! What makes me nervous, cranky, and ticked off is being put into a cat carrier! I've never learned to tolerate that very well, so my new owner can help me overcome this phobia by keeping it open in the room with treats, toys, and soft blankies to encourage me to go in and out on my own. I hope you agree that I am worthy of being adopted. I deserve to be treasured as much as I will treasure you, and I'm eagerly waiting for a loving home to call my own. 10-16-24

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.
This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
