Don't be fooled, Twinkie is not actually a ballerina posed effacé. She has what's called a splay leg, a condition which forms during the first few weeks of life. If a baby pigeon is hatched on a slippery surface without sufficient nesting material (or a sibling to snuggle up to) to bolster the growing body, often the leg(s) will slip out from underneath them. As they grow, all the muscles, ligaments, and tendons in the leg grow abnormally, and they no longer will be able to use their leg properly. For Twinkie, her splay is very pronounced, so she will most likely have to undergo amputation. This will allow her to have better balance and perhaps stand properly with her one good leg. But until then, Twinkie is getting all the love and snuggles from her foster mom, and despite her disability, enjoying life! Please apply to adopt http://www.pigeonrescue.org/birds/apply-to-foster-or-adopt/
