My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Handsome Mr Simba is an owner surrender (owner moved to a place where she can't take him).

He is good with other dogs (cats unknown). Enjoys walks, light jogs, and hiking. He loves to play and get belly rubs. As with most herding dogs he does get mouthy during play but doesn’t hurt. No small children. He is crate trained and food motivated. He knows crate, sit, down, place, and stay. Walks well on the leash.

He can be a little head shy at first but not so much after a few days of getting to know you. He can get a bit defensive if you suddenly grab his collar but no issues when leashing him up for walks or giving a neck rub.

He is super smart, independent, and strong willed (but learns very quickly).
He does well at the vets with men and women, loves car rides.. here is what has been said about him... Adoptable Simba is a 4 yr old Heeler (red & blue mix), neutered male, medium energy level. He is a sweet and cool dude! He enjoys walks, light jogs, and hiking. He loves to play and get belly rubs. As with most herding dogs he does get mouthy during play and doesn’t hurt but I’d recommend no small kids. Simba is dog friendly. No food aggression or resource guarding with this guy. He is crate trained and food motivated. He knows crate, sit, down, place, and stay in English and Spanish. Walks well on the leash. He can be a little head shy at first but not so much after a few days of getting to know you. He can get defensive if you suddenly grab his collar but no issues when leashing him up for walks or giving a neck rub.

Simba needs a heeler savvy home with someone who is kind, patient and can take charge without being a bully. His former home has some domestic issues and he needs a touch of firmness laced with kindness.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We require potential adopters to fill out an Adoption Application. When that is approved we can arrange for the prospective adopter to meet the dog they are interested in. We do require an adoption contract to be signed at time of adoption. We have a virtual home-check process (don't forget to submit photos of the exterior of your home!) Adoption fees range depending on the age of the dog. We do have dogs located at qualified fosters throughout the state and also out of state.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

Since all rescue dogs live in foster homes, there is no single facility to meet pups.

You will need to contact Ewenity Farms HDH to make arrangements to meet the rescue dog after you have an approved app on file. Apps can be filled out at ewenityfarm.org

More about this rescue

We are a small, foster-based rescue organization located in Southwest Florida. Being small helps us give more one-on-one attention to individual dogs and their needs. Rescued dogs are kept in our homes and treated as our own. Herding dogs are unique. They are highly intelligent and require much of the owner’s attention. The dogs are evaluated, when they come into the rescue, for any temperament and health issues. Then they are given basic obedience, socialization and rehabilitation as it is necessary.

It is our sole purpose to find forever homes for these loving, wonderful dogs that have been discarded through no fault of their own. All adopted dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on shots, heartworm negative, micro-chipped, and on flea and heartworm preventative.
