Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Mabel, the lovable large breed mix who's a gentle giant at heart! ~ This sweet girl adores being close to her people-so much so that she'll happily try to be a lap dog. Mabel loves everyone she meets, spreading joy wherever she goes. ~ However, when it comes to other dogs, she can be a bit standoffish at first. A slow and gentle introduction is all she needs to warm up and feel comfortable around new canine friends. ~ Mabel would thrive in a home that offers a balance of activity and calm. She enjoys long walks, though she tends to pull a bit on the leash, so she'll need a front clip harness to help with that.
If you're looking for a big-hearted companion with a gentle soul, Mabel could be the perfect match for you!
Explanation of Behaviours: - She has displayed nervous and fearful behaviours when meeting new people, in new situations and in new environments. Her new family will need to work with her on slowly and properly desensitizing her to the world around her and build her confidence. - A very active dog that will need plenty of exercise, training, stimulation and enrichment daily to set him up for success. - Mabel has been very sensitive to loud/unexpected noises and displays fearful behaviour in these situations. - Mabel can be fearful of new dogs in her space, she may become fear reactivity and bark/growl if they approach too quickly. Always allow her to me a dog on her own terms and very slowly!
This dog would benefit from: - Active home - Dog savvy Children - Lots of training and socialization - Lots of time and attention - Power breed knowledge / experience
Training needs/behaviours that need to be worked with for this dog: - Basic Training - Basic Manners - Work on reactivity (specifically noted towards other new dogs)
**For more information on any behaviours stated above, please check out our behaviour fact sheet: https://kwsphumane.ca/BehavioursandDefinitions
**Please remember that animals are coming back from foster care to the centres for their meet and greets. They will be experiencing a new environment and meeting new people, which means they may not exhibit the same behaviours they did in their foster videos or while in foster care.

Come into the Centre and if you see a pet you like, you are able to do a "Meet and Greet" with that pet. Spend some time in alone with the pet or take a dog out for a short walk. If you are still interested in adopting the pet you can meet with one of our Adoption Counsellors who will have you fill out and application and will ask you some questions about the environment in which you live. If you seem like a wonderful match and your envirnoment meets the needs of the pet then your application should be approved!
