Here's what the humans have to say about me:
We are society finches! It is not possible to know the sex of society finches by looking at them - they are all unknown gender. Adoption fee for one is $15, each additional adopted at the same time has a discounted adoption fee of $10.
Here are some Fun Facts about finches!
We are small, active, fairly quiet birds that do not require nor enjoy much human interaction. We are gentle birds who make cute and soothing sounds. We enjoy bird swings, toys, and mirrors to keep us busy! Please feed us a variety of pellets, seeds, and fresh veggies and fruits! Our average life span is 4-7 years.
Housing requirements: Most housing sold at pet stores is too small for small pets. They are going to be spending most of their lives inside their cage; your housing must be as large as the below or larger (bigger is always better!) in order to adopt this pet.
Up to 3 finches; 24 wide x 16 deep x 27 inches high, with bar spacing should be no wider than 1 inch.
Finches are birds that fly horizontally - they cannot use the space in tall, narrow cages. Their cages should have a lot of room going side to side, so they can get exercise by flying in the cage.
Finches are a social species, meaning the company of their own kind is critical to their health and well being. These birds can be adopted to add to your existing finch flock in any number; finches are usually easy to introduce to one another, as long as there is sufficient space. If you don't already have finches to put them with, they need to be adopted in groups, they cannot be kept as singles.
If you're ready to adopt now and want to learn more about, meet, or adopt this pet, you can start the process in one of two ways:
Come on in during open adoption hours Tuesday - Saturday 12:30-3:00! For in-shelter pets (not in foster care) coming in ASAP is the fastest way to adopt.
**the below two methods are slower than visiting us**
Call us (413-781-4000 x 1) or email us (springfield@dakinhumane.org) for more information about a pet. We are often on the line with another client, but we return voice mail and emails within 24 hours.
