This is not an easy decision for our family. We will also be rehoming our other dog. Our dogs are each eight years old (Zappa turning eight on 9/26/2024).
We have had Zappa since she was 7 weeks old. She is part Alaskan Malamute, Australian Cattledog, Beagle, amongst other breeds. She is a true mutt.
Zappa has A LOT of energy. She needs to be with someone who can walk or exercise with her frequently. She is aging, so this may decrease with time, but up until this point she has had zero health issues and acts exceptionally young. She loves to hike and go for walks. She does have some leash reactivity but is friendly once interacting with other dogs and people. This improves with consistent walking and training activities, which we have no time for.
Zappa gets into trouble if she doesn't receive enough exercise or attention. We can no longer care for her as the responsibilities relating to work and our children have our first priority and we are worried she will get hurt.
