Meet Barbie: this gorgeous little girl came to our rescue as a medical case - she had been thrown over a fence either due to broken hip or this caused her hip to break - she received an FHO and a SI surgery and a partial tail amputation. Barbie has made a full recovery from these surgeries - she will always have a little swagger in her hips when walking and running, but she's not letting it slow her down anymore.
Barbie is a big snuggle bug, loves her dog bed or the sofa. She loves being around her humans and her sister dogs (usually likes to be touching one of them when she’s Lounging). She is almost potty trained, but cannot hold it longer than about 3-4 hrs during the day, but will hold it all night! She cries a little if she knows her humans are around and she’s not able to find them, but does well if they’re out of the house.
She does not like the crate - she didn’t like it, even right after surgery and was on doctors orders - she would much prefer to free roam or confinement in a smaller space (like laundry room). She loves to look out the window and given a dog bed by window, she will chill. Her happy place it next to her human - she likes to be in the office with them while they work, and she is not a barker at the Amazon driver! She is very food motivated and is slowly learning certain commands. She also knows how to wait her turn for ice (which she loves!), her food, or treats. She doesn’t jump on people and she’s pretty good on a leash. As she's still a puppy, she’s a bit of a chewer, but doesn't mind when she’s redirected to one of her toys. She loves any toy she can chew on, especially the kind that are meant for chewers.
She is ok with cats, more curious than anything. Amazing with other dogs and loves to play with other dogs! She plays with the fosters 10 yr old and our 3 yr old dogs, so she definitely loves to play! Her hip sometimes bothers her if it’s getting ready to rain or if she plays a little too hard with her older sisters!
She’s great with kids and she’s patient, but like any pup, she doesn’t want to be laid on or handled, she just wants to play and snuggle …so she would be fine with kinds that can respect her and her boundaries. She is ok in the car. She likes it, but she prefers just being at home or on a short walk. She is just the sweetest and gives the best kisses and is such a happy puppy!
Barbie is looking for a home where she had at least one fur sibling dog who wants to play. She would also do well if someone can work from home some because she loves being around her humans. She’s not a fan of being alone, she would like to supervise her humans with every step they take, especially in the kitchen.
***Please note: All dogs are fostered in private homes of volunteers, so to meet a dog please fill out an Adoption Application on our website (http://www.twyla.org/adopt/our-adoption-process) so we may setup a private meetup with the dog or coordinate for an Introduction at the next general Adoption Meet and Greet (as listed on our website: (http://www.twyla.org/upcoming-events), as not all dogs attend all Meet and Greets***
